Superboy #15
There are some parts of this issue where the art looks good. Amilcar Pinna is no doubt the best artist in this issue and he really should be considered to be drawing the full issue in the future. He manages to add a lot with very little details and somehow captures emotions and they come off very strong. The story is fairly good. H'el is a new and interesting villain. When he did to Superboy in Superman #14 is still having ramifications and Superman tries to take care of them. The best part of this issue is the interaction between Superman and Superboy. They really are two different characters and it really shows in this issue. Superman giving up his suit gets rid of that awful Tron looking costume.
THE BAD:
This has no consistency in the art. It changes every few pages and is very distracting to the point where you almost hate the changes. The dialog for Superboy is whinny and the readers are ready for him to stop being the same character that he was in issue #1. Tom Defalco isn't the best with dialog and it shows the most when Superboy and Superman are entering the Fortress of Solitude with him mentioning all these things that probably should have been switched for words that would make the situation feel more severe. The editor notes bug me as well. Just put see issue #?? instead of something really stupid and long.
THE VERDICT: 3.5/5 (Good)
Superboy hasn't really gone a single issue where it wasn't in a crossover and it's really suffered because of it. The character hasn't changed, but this issue does look to switch things up and hopefully after this we can see Superboy become a little stronger instead of this whinny teenager that is thrown into crossover after crossover. If you like Superboy or want to collect all the issues of this H'el on EAth Crossover, this is something that you are going to want to get.
