    I Can't Get Into This

    The Story:

A new origin story involving Superboy.

    My Thoughts:

This new Superboy series is suppose to serve as an updated origin story for his character. According to official sources, certain tweaks and changes have been made. Now I know next to nothing about Superboy. I've never been interested in his character or bothered to find out much about him in spite of everyone who seems to love him. I figured this would be as good a time as any to find out about his character since this was serving as an origin story. So far I think I'm the only person alive who wasn't thrilled with this issue. I'm honestly trying to remain as objective as I can possibly be. I don't know if I lack the same affinity others have for Superboy or if it's something else.

I didn't find the story very engaging at all. I honestly wanted to like this otherwise I wouldn't have paid for it. It seems as if not a whole lot happened. At least nothing of any significance. I know it's only the first issue but I felt like I wasn't given a reason to want to follow this series. Even with the appearance of Ravager (a character I like) it didn't do anything to spark my interest. I thought the interaction between her and Superboy was boring. I know everything I've said seems negative, but there really wasn't anything I liked about the issue.

The art is by R.B. Silva who I'm not familiar with. It's not horrible but there's something about it I'm just not crazy about. It almost seems childish, like it's drawn for a younger audience. The cover was weird to me as well.

I said I wasn't going to drop a series after one issue, that I would give them all a chance but I'm seriously considering dropping this one. Personally I can't recommend this to people. I felt cheated out of my money. I rarely say that about comics but I can't help it here.

    Rating: 2/5

When Geoff Johns did his run on Adventure Comics with Francis Manapul, we saw that his vision of Superboy was to pin his genetics against himself. His genetics don't fight physically, but symbolically Superboy struggles between his Human and Alien halves. The new 52 is interesting because this run is suppose to be accessible and is intended as a jump in point. I felt it was. There are familiar settings and characters weaved within this comic so that older fans can be given possible red herrings ...

      Superboy Ver. 2.0 0

The Good: I like the idea that Superboy's powers are much more based on his TTK. It separates him further from Supermen, giving him more of his own identity. Superboy and Supergirl never had as much distinct uniqueness from Superman compared to Batman's proteges in my opinion, and this serves to help Superboy be more of his own man. There's some fun stuff done with the plot that leaves you shocked at minor twists. This series has done one of the best jobs at rounding out its supporting cast in o...
