According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Ayer, the writer/director of Sabotage, End of Watch, and the upcoming Fury, is eyeing working on Warner Bros/DC Entertainment's upcoming Suicide Squad film.

Suicide Squad is a DC team book about incarcerated villains looking for a way to redeem themselves/get out of jail. The Suicide Squad team goes on over-the-top missions and the death of team members is expected, hence the name. The team features Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Black Manta and more.

Justin Marks has been attached to this book as a writer for the past couple of years, but it seems it was put aside so Warner Bros can work on other projects (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Chuck Roven is also attached to produce the film.

It seems like a fantastic idea to have Ayer jump onto this film, since he makes some gritty, violent films, which is what this franchise really needs. What do you guys think?

This is DC news I can get behind. Hopefully this version of the team has some interesting supervillains and less juggalettes.

This is all sorts of wrong without the ground work first. Any and all villain in this should have been in a film already and then form, like the evil version of Avengers mcu. This would obviously require an Aquaman film, and varios others to show them all getting locked up and recruited.

interesting this comes out the day deadpool is announced. hmmm...but glad they are finally doing these comic movies for small budget they announced like a year ago. wonder who they would use other than amanda waller? hope they can get cch pounder or pam grier to play amanda waller. then would like to see captain boomerang, deadshot, bronze tiger, harley quinn, and from the old guard enchantress, nightshade and plastique

Yes totally agree End of Watch in my opinion is one of the best movies of 2012, i just don't point that out because it is in the topic synopsis.

It would be an awesome movie but who would be the villains. Some terrorist group like kobra or basilisk. That would get boring real quick. A better plot would be a suicide squad vs former members. U have members like deadshot or harley quinn who hav a moral center going up against former members who r just evil like black manta or count vertigo

I hope it's like the justice league unlimited task force x episode i want to see the characters take such risks and use their wits and skills to the extreme not just their weapons. Characters I want to see Rick flag, Fat Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang, Bronze tiger, Deadshot, King shark, Clock king, plastique, Cameron chase, Harley quinn, Knockout, mirror master(yea it would be cool to see him use those abilities to help the team the dude can use a mirror to teleport).

others/ cameos(maybe in iron heights prison): the flash rogues, Count vertigo, multiplex, cluemaster, killer croc(maybe a vs fight with king shark), black spider, icicle, Nemesis, Hugo strange, nightshade, black manta, savant, Sgt. rock, Wade Eilling, sportsmaster(yes like in young justice), deathstroke (maybe a mask cameo), Ray palmer.

@boynerdgeek: do you realize what would happen if they made it r. The amount they make would collapse as highschool students wouldn't be able to see it without parents. People need to stop complaining That the ratings will be too low when it's obvious that an r rating would kill the box office.

DC has had trouble nailing the proper tone for the Suicide Squad in the comics. I don't have much faith in a movie studio having any better luck.

If that god awful Harley Quinn isn't in it, then I can support this because David Ayers is an awesome director and writer. Please keep Harley away, the Suicide Squad used to be hard core. (John Ostrander's run) Now they're a joke.

Yeah, I know that the team is seemingly more popular than it was back in the 80s/90s, but ugh this lineup bugs me.

I agree that having the members of the Squad make their first appearances in other films would have been a good approach, but the time for that has passed.

I'd love the NYC arc of Ostrander's run adapted as a motion picture. Some of those battles against the Jihad members were quite cinematic.

Sweet! I prefer Deadshot 10x more than Deathstroke. If the live action film is anything like The Losers, or Assault on Arkham then I'm definitely going to enjoy it. (+)

The funny thing is Assault on Arkham is mainly based on New 52 Suicide Squad line up and...people love it that movie. It is very fun movie

@feartheliving: with Director almost attach seems like the Suicide Squad movie possibly on 2016 or 2017. Well if you watch Assault on Arkham animated movie, you just have to know that Amanda Waller assemble this bad guy to do secret black ops mission. That is all we need. We don't need to do 3 or 4 solo movies to assemble Suicide Squad movie. Besides Guardians of the galaxy movie prove that we don't need Groot solo movie, we don't need Rocket solo movie, We don't need Gamora solo movie, We don't need Drax solo movie to establish their personality and characters. Suicide Squad can follow same formula

Feels like I've been saying this a lot lately, but it's a great time to be a comic fan.

Though I'm iffy about this movie succeeding, I'm so happy to see these other characters getting notice.

But yea, I feel like Suicide Squad is more enjoyable when you've read stories with these characters as villains. You get a better understanding of who they are. I don't know how they'd introduce them in their own movie like this.
