Suicide Squad #2 - Bloodbowl!
So we're on issue two of suicide squad now, and if you didn't like the first issue, you probably will still not like this one. However, if you did like the first one, this one continues to deliver the same kind of wacky faced paced story telling you got from the first one.
The Good
1) Like the first issue, it seems as though you have complete resolution packed neatly within one issue. this one has a beginning, middle and end that work well enough on their own as a self contained story, but still manage to leave you wanting to find out what happens next without needing to leave you on a cliffhanger ending.
2) Deadshot is pretty cool. He has some excellent moments in this issue, and I enjoy his character as the de facto leader of the squad.
3) At least it isn't regular zombies.
4) King shark (I don't think I need to say more).
The Bad
1) I'm not sure that I'm feeling Harley come through as a character at all in this. It seems like they're spending a lot more time on El Diablo, who isn't a bad character. It's just, if you're going to put her on the cover of every issue they should spend a little bit more time characterizing her.
2) Even though they're not regular zombies, they're still zombies, and really I get enough of those in The Walking Dead.
3) It was a little hard to follow the action in this issue. I know the squad members were in different parts of this stadium, but it just seemed very unclear what their positional relationships were to one another, and that was somewhat frustrating to me as it seemed like characters were just appearing and disappearing out of nowhere.
The Verdict
I enjoyed this book. It's fun, ridiculous and doesn't take itself too seriously. I'm looking forward to Issue 3.
