    Suicide Squad #1 - A Good Start

Most of the discussion surrounding suicide squad seems to have been centered around Harley's redesign, so I'll hit that first and say IT'S NOT THAT BAD. In the context of this book, her current look works totally fine. Now that that's over with, I'll go ahead and say that I have no prior experience with Suicide Squad or Secret Six or any of that stuff, so this is the perspective of somebody with absolutely no expectations.

    The Good

1)This issue does a fine job of introducing who the squad is, what's up with them, and gives their back stories in a very nicely contextualized way that totally works. They just jump right into things running full speed, and don't stop. Loved it.

    2) King shark bites a guy's arm off.

    3) The story ends in a nice twist, setting up future issues very well.

    4) Did I mention King Shark? He's awesome.

    The Bad

    1) Honestly there's not much to complain about here. I would have liked to see some additional background on characters besides Harley, Deadshot and El Diablo, but I'm surprised there was as much as they had with just one issue.

    2) Hearing El Diablo refer to the gang members as "Bangers" made me cringe a little. I've never heard a Latino use the term "Bangers." A Banger is a sausage you order at British pub, along with some mashed potatoes.

    Verdict

Definitely not the best book ever, but tons of fun, and a surprise to me. I'm interested in seeing where htis goes, and am definitely on board for the first arc at least.

      Delivers what it advertises. 0

I'm a fan of both Harley Quinn and Suicide Squad so I was hooked to this book, but I triedto look at it objectively on the second read through for the sakes of critiquing the books merits, which good for it I'll be able to keep short. In a nutshell, this book delivers exactly what it advertises, nothing more or less, hence why Igave it a firm rating.- New revamped version of the Suicide Squad as opposed to the classic. Check.- Harley Quinn is present and her storyline continues and character progr...

Someone Give Waller a Sandwich or Twenty. 0

Another book defies expectations this week, and that is Suicide Squad. Despite the train wreck that was Flashpoint: Legion of Doom, Adam Glass manages to deliver on this premise, though not in spectacular fashion. It is a solid first issue that introduces us to who we need to know and even gives us some reasons to be interested in a few of them. When it was first announced, I was really looking forward to Suicide Squad. The premise sounded like a great one for a villain team book. Then, I read an...
