Bring Strange Tales to the MAX

Before I wrote this review, this issue was sitting at 7 votes at 4.4 stars.  It is nice to see I was not the only one to enjoy this great indie anthology.  The Solicit states:

"Marvel's critically acclaimed indie anthology returns! The best, most exciting cartoonists working today re-imagine Marvel's greatest characters in three giant-sized issues! And with no ads! Get excited, folks. Comics absolutely do not get more awesome than this! Don't miss out on what's guaranteed to be one of the best reads of the year!!!"

At this comics core, it is what Vertigo used to be before the current creator owned series took over.  This passion to re-image stories is what made me fall in love with Vertigo.  This comic is full of re-imaging.

There is something for everyone in this comic.  People who like the cult classic Invader Zim may like will appreciate the Jhonen Vasquez story, since he was one of the creators of the show.  There are many Canadians in this comic like currently DC exclusive Jeff Lemire.  Other Canadians like Jillian Tamaki and Kate Beaton may be lesser known but provide great contributions to this comics.
There are many styles and many voices in this anthology.  Overall it is a good read. If you can find this issue, give it a shot.  This is a great way to be exposed to indie writers.  Many of the top writers had roots in the Indie market, such as Brian Michael Bendis with his work from Image, Matt Fraction was all Casanova before he went Marvel and even Ed Brubaker was Indie with An Accidental Death.

A comic like this could be the humble start to a future favorite.  Exposing yourself to this awesome book will only help the industry.

    Cheers
