Storm
Storm is a comic book character that first appeared in Giant-Size X-Men #1Ororo Munroe is one of the most powerful mutants known, she holds many titles including Queen of Wakanda, Mistress of the Elements, and most notably - Storm. Her powers to command the weather make her a fierce and unpredictable fighter, yet she is very much a kind and gentle person.
History
Storm is a descendant of an ancient, royal line of white-haired, blue-eyed sorceresses (and possibly mutants), who get their defining features every 5 generations. Her mother, N'Dare Munroe, married an American photojournalist, David Munroe, and they lived in Manhattan. They moved to Cairo, Egypt when Ororo was still an infant. When Ororo was five, she and her family were caught in an Arab-Israeli conflict. Her parents were killed and Ororo ended up buried under rubble next to her mother's body. Because of this, Ororo has a life long struggle to overcome her severe claustrophobia.
As an orphan, Ororo was forced to live on the streets. She was taken in by a street gang named Achmed El-Gibar and learned the ways of pickpocketing, lock-picking and thievery. It was at this time she had her first encounter with Charles Xavier, a powerful telepath that would, years later, form a team of mutants called the X-Men. It was through Ororo's actions Charles would meet Shadow King. Storm also proved her skills as a thief by stealing a rare ruby-coloured gem, a so-called "heart of eternal darkness" against Achmed's orders. Many years later, it would be discovered that the stone Storm stole contained the essence of the immortal mutant Candra.
Years later, Ororo felt an urge to leave Egypt and returned to her ancestor's homeland in Kenya. On the way there, Ororo accepted a ride with a man, who then attempted to rape her. Ororo killed the man with a knife, but afterwards, swore never to take a life again. Continuing her journey, Ororo discovered she could manipulate the weather when she nearly died of thirst in the Sahara desert. Ororo also found out that South Africans under the leadership of Andreas de Ruyter were trying to kidnap Prince T'Challa of Wakanda, who was little older than her. Storm used her powers to help him escape, and the two travelled for a while. T'Challa and Ororo grew attracted to each other, but Ororo's dream and T'Challa's duty meant they couldn't be together.
Storm's mutant powers to control the weather lead the local tribe to believe her to be a goddess and worshiped her. One day, Xavier was left no choice but to contact Ororo and ask her to assist in rescuing the X-Men. Afterward he informed her that she was not a goddess but a mutant. Ororo agreed to join the X-Men and went to live in America. On the new X-Men's first mission they rescued the old X-Men from the living island of Krakoa. Ororo began to adapt to her new life. Her teammate Thunderbird was killed on one of their early missions when he tried to stop Count Nefaria. She next battles former X-Men Havok and Polaris who were being mind controlled by a Shi'arr spy who was using the persona of Eric the Red. Storm becomes very close friends with former X-Man Jean Grey around this time. When the team goes into the city to celebrate Christmas they are attacked and kidnapped by a a group of sentinels being controlled by Steven Lang. They are taken into space by the setinels and held as prisoners in Lang's sentinel factory above earth. During their escape they are forced to use a damaged space craft to reenter the earth's atmosphere, Jean is the only person onboard who would survive long enough to pilot the ship while everyone else remains protected in the radiation room. Jean is replaced by the Pheonix during the reentry. In order to get away from all the stress recently the team decides to take a vacation to Banshee's home Cassidy Keep. When they get their they are attacked by Juggernaut and Banshee's cousin Black Tom Cassidy. They are taken out easily due to Storm's breakdown because she is claustophobic and she can't stand being confined inside the castle. When she is finally able to get outside she turns the battle in favor of the X-Men.
When they are still in Scotland they go to Muir Island the lab of Moira McTaggert to check on her research. The facility is attacked by Eric the Red, Havok and Polaris who take the infant Magneto and age him to his thirties when his powers are at their peak. He easily defeats the entire team considering that two of its strongest members are made of metal. Eric the Red reveals that he is actually a Shi'ar spy sent to earth to capture the fugitive Princess Lilandra, she had been in psychic contact with Charles Xavier and they had fallen in love. When Eric takes her back to Shi'ar space Xavier sends the X-Men after them and they battle the entire Imperial Guard. After their battle the X-Men along with the Shi'ar ruler D'Ken are sucked into the M’Kraan Crystal and Pheonix repairs the crystal saving the universe. Storm and the rest of the X-Men return to earth but are soon after kidnapped by Magneto and held prisoner in the Savage Land. He places restraints on them that take away theeir ability to form words and prevents them from moving their arms and legs. Magneto felt that it was a fitting punishment for his time stuck as an infant. But Storm is able to use her skills as a lockpick to break the restraints and she frees therest of the team. They attack Magneto and he destroys his hidden headquarters in an attempt to kill them. The X-Men are split in two groups, Pheonix and Beast are propelled out of the Savage Land to Antarctica and the rest of the team is imprisoned underground in the Savage Land. With no way of knowing if their friends are alive due to the secret psychic block over the Savage Land Pheonix and Beast return to America believing their teammates killed. Storm and the X-Men adapt to life in their temporary home in the village of Ka-Zar and help him defeat the tyrant Garokk. Garokk is knocked down into a pit in his collapsing citadel and Storm attempts to save him but she breaks down due to her claustrophobia and saves herself. Storm blamed herself for the death of Garokk and it left her traumatized.
Storm decides to return to her childhood home and see what the condition of it. When she gets there she sees that it has become a drug den for teenage junkies to live. They try to rob her and attck, she fights them off but it left shocked over the conditions that some kids lived in.She also became the permanent team leader after defeating Cyclops in combat, even after losing her powers.
After their wedding, Storm and T'Challa went on a royal world tour. Their first stop was Dr. Doom's castle in Latveria at Doom's request. After battling a legion of Doombots, they escaped and visited Namor in Atlantis, who did not receive them well. Afterward they flew to the moon to visit the Inhumans royal family.
There they were attacked because of Quicksilver's recent theft of the Terrigen Mists. While the fighting was stopped, they left with the looming threat of war between the Inhumans and earth. Lastly, they stopped in America where they were set up and attacked by Tony Stark and the Sentinels of ONE. Storm and T'Challa decided to stay, and have indicated support for Captain America's rebellion against the Super-Human Registration Act. After Civil War, Storm and her husband made a temporary home in the Baxter Building and filled in for Reed and Sue Richards of the Fantastic Four. With Reed and Sue's return, and their adventures with the Fantastic Four over, Ororo and T'Challa moved back to Wakanda.
Dark Reign
In Dark Reign T'Challa is viciously attacked by Dr. Doom and his forces, and is left in a coma. During his time in recovery, Storm took political control of Wakanda, and nominated Shuri to go before the Panther God. As Shuri went on her quest to seek the Panther God's approval, Ororo and Queen Mother, Ramonda, sought out the help of the witch doctor Zawavari. Because of her spirit, and strong connection to T'Challa, it was decided that Zawavari would used his magics to send Ororo into limbo so that she could rescue her husband. In limbo, T'Challa had been successfully fighting off death and his forces, but the manpower that was being used against him soon became too much, and as he was being dragged off into the next life. Suddenly, a powerful wind sent all of his enemies flying away from him. When Death turned around he saw Storm hovering above him, with lightning in both hands. In a bid to free T' Challa, Storm leveled Death and his minions with a fierce wind attack, and revealed to T'Challa that the only way she could save him was to give her life in his place. Though willing to give her life for her husband, T'Challa convinces Storm to continue battling Death's endless horde, refusing to accept his offer. Fortunately for the both of them, Shuri, his sister and the new Black Panther, was able to lure and trap Morlun in their place, saving them both.
Storm continues to be an active member of the X-Men, fighting along side both the Astonishing and Uncanny teams. She is currently assisting the with the mutant colonization of Utopia, and helped save S.W.O.R.D. agent Abigail Brand from certain death while plummeting toward earth after her starship was damaged.
Powers
Several times in the past, Storm has been described as a "sculptress". This is (arguably) the best way to describe her mutant mastery over weather, and certain forms of energy. When Storm uses her psionic powers, she sees the world as colorful, constantly changing energy patterns, rather than solid matter. These energy patterns can be "molded" to Storm's will to create a vast number of effects which mainly deal with weather manipulation. Storm is greatly in tune with nature and the elements. She can feel them, and likewise they react to her emotional state. She can manipulate weather patterns on a variety of scales, including the ability to summon large and violent thunderstorms and blizzards, as well as sleet and hail. She has the ability to fly by gliding on wind currents. She can also move objects or other people with the wind or create a dome of air pressure to deflect attacks. Storm's power over air pressure has also been used to crush powerful objects such as Skrull warships. She has even created pressure (on earth) higher than that found on Jupiter. It has also been shown that her mastery over wind is superb enough to control the air in a person's lungs. She can also control the pressure inside the human inner ear, using this ability to cause extreme pain. She can also bend light using moisture in the air and her manipulation of mist and fog to become partially transparent, and in later comics, almost completely invisible. Storm’s powers grant her the ability to fly as high as the atmosphere can be stretched by using her mastery over wind. She can even carry other people with her. Storm can also use the weather as a weapon. She can summon lightning bolts from the sky that can be used to blind, stun, or severely burn her opponents, even to the point of death. She can also use this ability as a concussive force.
When using her powers, Storm becomes one with the energy patterns she manipulates. This gives her the ability to project weather effects through her body. For instance, she can generate lightning, intense cold, and intense heat, from her hands rather than from her actual atmosphere. Her power over thunder has been used to create deafening sounds for distracting her enemies. She can create powerful tornadoes, hurricanes, and various winds that are capable of moving a vast number of objects/people including levitating an entire building, and sending the Hulk soaring away from her and her teammates. One of the most impressive show of Storm's ability over wind is when she guided the X-men's Blackbird plane safely to the ground at that time the Blackbird weighed 300 tons and it was on fire. But this act took all of her concentration and left her physically drained. Her ability over water and it’s forms has been shown by her creating heavy rainfall, and instant floods that have even “washed” away savage land dinosaurs. Control over moisture and temperature allows Storm to freeze/flash freeze objects and people in the blink of an eye.
In fact, when she once lost control of her powers, Storm was in danger of creating another world-wide ice age. She can also generate heat as strong as the earth allows. Storm can control the weather vocally too. On several occasions she has spoken to the weather like a general to her army and the weather obeys. Storm’s powers change when she enters a different planet or dimension. In deep space, if close to a star, she can manipulate solar winds. If far from a star, it would take strong concentration to use this power, so, she can almost always depend on her lightning wherever she goes. Storm’s ability to adapt to her environment isn’t limited to large bodies of water either, as she has manipulated ocean currents similarly to how she manipulates the wind.Storm can also use this ability to "sense" where objects are even in the deepest part of the ocean. Her body seems to be immune to the pressure and cold that goes to diving at those depths. She can summon clouds and fog to provide cover and obscure the view of her enemies. Storm has also shown that, when drastically overwhelmed, she can become a being with lightning for hair, and breath of fire and ice.
When Storm uses her powers she can see energy. Storm's excellent hand-to-hand combat is enhanced by this "energy viewing". Because Storm can see the energy that comes from the brain to the nervous system she can dodge and or counter all but the fastest attacks. Storm has also been shown to be able to effect technology. Without the use of electricity Storm has been able to short circus electronic locks by stopping the electrical energy. This power also extends to night vision on par with Wolverine.Besides the strength of her mind, body, and will, Storm is limited to the power of the planet or star she is on/near. The more options the planet/star has, the more options (powers) she has. She works with the energies that govern weather, which means that although she can create an instant flash flood, the water that is needed for such a feat, doesn't just come out of nowhere. She gets it from the earth as it is her power supply. Due to very good training from an early age, Storm can use her powers to set many weather patterns out of place to perform/create exotic feats/effects, and then set them back from where she got them from, putting weather patterns back to their natural state. Thus, she can disperse any Storm she generates as long as she uses her powers wisely, considering the fact that it's easy for her to create weather, but more challenging to disperse it, or, "clear it up". However, Storm may have more to her power arsenal than she shows, as she not only generated unnatural pressure on earth, but also manipulated (and intensified) plasma while in the earth's atmosphere.
She seems unaffected by the weather, including lightning and temperature. While in the past, Storm has been attacked with (and harmed) by lightning/electric blasts she hasn't created herself, and almost overheated due to trying to adjust to violent weather, it appears that the more experienced she gets, the less the weather seems to harm her, both indirectly, and directly. This is further shown by her being able to reverse/counter electrically based attacks.
It has yet to be confirmed, but it has been mentioned on several occasions that Storm may be an Omega level mutant. Uncanny X-Men #147 showed that Storm is able to transform into a being with lightning for hair and breath of fire and ice. While Black Panther #21 says that Storm is indeed a possible Omega-level mutant. Storm has also summoned the full power of millions of stars and planets.
During her brief stint with the Fantastic Four, she hosted the consciousness of the abstract entity Eternity within her own mind, enabling Dr. Strange to perform a mystical surgery on the dying entity. According to Strange, he and she were the only ones present with the strength of spirit to survive hosting Eternity. The other heroes present were Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, the Thing, Black Panther, and Silver Surfer.Storm is an intelligent, gifted and adept leader, and has lead the X-Men for years prior to her marriage to Black Panther. She is an excellent marksman with handguns, proficient with knives, and an expert at thievery and picking locks. She is also highly athletic and a cunning and skilled hand to hand combatant. She has proven this on many occasions, most notably in two different circumstances. First, when she defeated Callisto, the leader of the Morlocks. Second, when she lost the use of her powers, but still defeated Cyclops to become the leader of the X-Men.
Mystic Heritage
Ororo is the descendant of a long line of African Priestesses and Sorceresses that had white hair, blue eyes, and strong magic potential. This line of women has been around since the dawn of Atlantis. While there have been many of them, the exact number of the women who possessed Ororo’s unique features is still unknown. But due to the fact that Storm possesses the signature markings of a witch (on her maternal side only) She has inherited strong, yet latent, magic abilities. To this day, Storm still has not truly embraced the mystic aspects of her heritage, but she does embrace the “Bright Lady”, The Goddess of her ancestors who is also know as the Vishanti member, Oshtur, the source of her ancestral magic. Storm has used her latent ability as a priestess, to successfully invoke her name. Out of the entire line of women, only 3 have been brought up. Ayesha, a Sorceress Supreme who was possibly the first to hold the High Priestess title. Ashake, a very talented Egyptian sorceress who appears to have also been High Priestess of her time. And another “Wind Rider” who was confirmed by Andreas deRuyter and his father. Like her ancestor, Ayesha, Storm also possesses the title of this era’s High Priestess. But she shares the title equally with Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness.
Claustrophobia
Storm is unquestionably a great X-Man and at the same time was a powerful mutant with high potentials. But deep beyond her powers is a fear that weakens her. It is called Claustrophobia or the fear of narrow or enclosed places, from a small hallway to box. During the state when Storm is manifesting this fear, she cannot concentrate and she cannot use her powers well. But it has been proven that if Storm has enough emotion behind her power she can summon and explosive amount of power. As Marvel put it Storm summoned the (raw) power equal to that of a star.

On Earth-295 ( Age of Apocalypse), Storm (as the Windrider) once carved out a portion of Africa to protect as its guardian from the surrounding chaos. Apocalypse didn't like this, kidnapping her and branding her eye before sending her to be trained as one of his warriors. The Prelate named Scott Summers helped her escape; she later joined the X-Men as led by Magneto. Her love interest in this universe is Quicksilver. Earth-1298
On Earth-1298 ( Mutant X), Storm is known as Bloodstorm after she becomes a vampire and leaves the X-Men. See: Mutant X #1-32, Mutant X Annual '99, 2000, and 2001, Paradise X: Heralds, and Marvel Encyclopedia.Bloodstorm was originally turned into a vampire by Dracula. At one time she reluctantly turned Gambit into a vampire, because he was dying and he begs her to do it no matter what. He ends up hating her for what he becomes. Thankful bastard! Bloodstorm, meanwhile, keeps Kitty Pryde and Forge in a castle as her own personal blood supply in order to survive. Storm then joins Havok's team, the Six, now whith the name Bloodstorm. This was actually Earth-616's Havok who accidentally had crossed over to Earth-1298.
The Six initially consisted of Havok, Bloodstorm, Ice-Man, Brute, Angel and Madelyne Pryor. Later she is pulled from her own reality by Machine Man of Earth-9997 and joins the Heralds. As a reward for helping she is cured of her vampiric state.
See Bloodstorm.
Powers
Bloodstorm has the same powers as Earth-616 Storm, ability to manipulate weather patterns in her area to summon winds, rain, fog, snow, hail, thunder, or lightning, though amplified by her vampiric state.
Additionally as a vampire she has the standard vampiric traits such as superhuman strength, speed, endurance, and reaction time, ability to morph into a bat, wolf, or mist. She can summon and control vermin, and use a hypnotic stare to hold human beings enthralled. She must suck the blood of others to survive otherwise she is invulnerable to most forms of permanent injury.
Earth-983
What if the X-Men had condemned Gambit to death? Storm and the rest of the X-Men battle Gambit until Storm gets the idea to put the fate of Gambit to a vote. Before judgment can be passed, Wolverine realizes that Gambit's fate should be decided in a trial by combat. After the X-Man Gambit was revealed to have had a past connection with their enemy, Mister Sinister, involving the creation of the Marauders, and their slaughter of the mutant Morlocks, Angel and Psylocke visited Papa Joe's Club to interrogate Gambit's adopted father, Jean-Luc LeBeau. Jean-Luc explained that he had no idea where Gambit had been, especially since the X-Men had dropped him in the Antarctic. The Angel and Psylocke then realized that Jean-Luc could only have known about the Antarctic had he spoken to Gambit. Jean-Luc begged for the X-Men to leave Gambit, as he could have died in the Antarctic, but the Angel and Psylocke claimed that it wasn't enough suffering for he had done to them.
Soon after they left the club, Angel and Psylocke were confronted by Wolverine, who reminded them that X-Men don't kill. Angel replied that it was funny coming from Wolverine and the X-Men also
don't freelance to Mister Sinister. Wolverine agreed that Gambit screwed up big time, but Angel and Psylocke were not helping by going off on their own. He then warned that if the entire team didn't have a say in Gambit's judgment then he could not see the X-Men staying together as a team. Later, as Gambit awoke in Paris, Jean-Luc called Gambit and warned him that he had just been visited by some of the X-Men.Back in New York, Joseph informed Rogue that the X-Men were about to have a meeting concerning the fate of Gambit. He noticed that Rogue was looking up the Antarctic in an atlas and reminded that she couldn't punish herself because of the crimes Gambit had committed. Their conversation was soon interrupted by the Beast, who wanted to know what was keeping them.
At the meeting, Storm informed the others that Wolverine, Angel, and Psylocke were towards Paris, where they believed Gambit was hiding. While the others discussed Gambit's fate, Maggott,
Marrow, and Dr. Cecilia Reyes stood outside the door trying to listen in on the conversation. While Marrow argued with Maggott, Maggott's maggots ate their way through the door, revealing their presence outside. Storm invited the three newest X-Men into the room, where she announced that the X-Men had decided to send a team to Paris to pass final sentence on Gambit. In Paris, Gambit walked the streets, where he was attacked by Psylocke. As he tried to battle her, Angel arrived as well. The duo soon cornered Gambit, who explained that he had been cornered before and lived to tell about it. At that time, Storm and the other X-Men arrived on the scene to battle Gambit. Before Marrow could kill Gambit, Rogue knocked her away and Storm put a vote on the fate of Gambit. Bishop voted imprisonment, Marrow voted death, Iceman voted exile, but Wolverine explained to them that it was the Morlocks who suffered most from Gambit's actions. He suggested that Gambit's fate be decided by a trial by combat, as the Morlocks would have done. Marrow was the first to want to battle Wolverine, but the Angel announced that his hostility was more personal. Marrow then agreed to allow the Angel to battle Gambit. The two battled furiously until the Angel managed to pin Gambit to the ground, but he then let Gambit go free instead of killing him. The other X-Men prepared to let Gambit go, but Marrow killed Gambit anyway, unable to just let what she saw as a killer go free.
As Gambit died, he begged Rogue not to kiss him as that would allow her to absorb Gambit's feelings of guilt and cause her more emotional pain.Gambit dies, but not before urging the X-Men to come together and stop letting his own crime tear them apart. See: What If vol. 2 #106.

On Earth-1610 ( Ultimate Universe), Storm is a founding member of X-Men and had a relationship with first Beast, then Wolverine. See: Ultimate X-Men series.
Earth-9602
Storm on Earth-9602 has been amalgamated with Wonder Woman (from the DC Universe) and is known as Amazon or Wonder Woman, having won that title in a fair contest against Diana. See: DC vs. Marvel #3, DC / Marvel All Access #4, Amazon #1, JLX: Unleashed #1, Bullets and Bracers #1.
Amazon's ship was wrecked by an angered Poseidon and her parents were killed, but she was saved from drowning by the Amazon Queen Hippolyta. After being nursed back to health, she was raised by the Amazons, particularly by Queen Hippolyta, as a princess and as a sister to Diana (later known as Diana Prince). Ororo first learned the truth of her origin after an annoyed Diana taunted her with the fact that Ororo was not "a real amazon" -- the two scuffled, Ororo asserting that she was a real amazon, but the fight was quickly broken up, at which point Hippolyta admitted that Ororo was an outsider adopted when she was just a small child.
See Amazon.Powers
Ororo Munroe is a meta-mutant with the ability to control the weather. After the Amazons discovered Ororo's power to control weather, they taught her to create a lasso with lightning that could make people tell the truth. She eventually left to enter "Man's World" where she joined the JLX and took Aqua Mariner's place as leader.

The X-Men save the President of the United States from an unknown mutant assassin near the end of a large-scale war between humankind and mutant kind. As a result, the X-Men become government-appointed officers of a new police force comprised of four- or five-member squads. Each squad consists of one human being, two to three mutants, and one Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) operative. Storm is the headmaster in charge of X-Men training as well as a member of one of the aforementioned squads. Her squad includes Nate Grey, Psychedelia (a female mutant with auditory, visual, and olfactory hallucination powers), the human David Chan, and A.I. Sarah, Model #00-1468. The squads defend the United States against the world's greatest threat: Wolverine. The fact that he becomes a super terrorist (mostly due to a brain injury) doesn't help the world that's struggling to put its mutant bigotry behind. See: X-Men Millennial Visions 2000.

What if Storm had stayed a thief in Cairo instead of going to Kenya when she was a teenager? She was caught stealing from an older man named Herman Hassel, who turned out to be a retired thief himself. Herman took Storm under his wing, at which point she started calling herself Jack Black and accompanied Herman to New York, where they were thieves together. When Ororo was arrested, her claustrophobia caused her mutant weather powers to surface. Later, Ororo attacked the X-Men because they were threatening to Herman, who had stolen an important gem. Charles Xavier managed to calm Ororo down, perhaps particularly because Herman had taught her to be respectful towards elderly people, especially cripples. Ororo declined Xavier's offer to join the X-Men, but she gave up thieving and instead returned to Kenya to find her true self. See: What If vol. 2 #40.Earth-9939
Earth-9939 is taken over by Charnel also known as Baron Strucker the Fourth. The only surving heroes include the Avengers and the team Storm is on known as the X-Saviours. See: Death 3 #1

What if Colossus had never joined the X-Men? Storm and the rest of the X-Men battle Proteus, mostly unsuccessfully, until Soviet super soldiers (including Colossus) join the fight. Other members of the X-Men of this reality include Cyclops, Havok, Nightcrawler, Phoenix, and Wolverine. See: What If vol. 2 #110.
Earth-913
On Earth-913, Storm is sought after as a bride by Arkon in Africa. The All-New, All-Different X-Men (which included Storm) is never formed on Earth-913, so Storm never becomes an X-Man. See: What If vol. 2 #23.
Earth-904
Instead of leaving with the rest of the X-Men as she did in the Earth-616 continuity, Storm remains in Asgard. Storm and the real Thor (turned into a frog by Loki!) defend Asgard from invading forces of Hela and Karnilla as well as a disguised Loki's machinations. Storm becomes the Goddess of Thunder as well as its queen after Thor opts to give up his right to the throne and remain on Earth. See: What If vol. 2 #12.
Earth-1008
Magneto has entered into an alliance with Deathbird, killing Deathbird's sister Lilandra so Deathbird can become leader of the Shi'ar Empire and, using the might of the Shi'ar military, launches a deadly assault on Professor Xavier and his followers. With his dying thought, Xavier transfers his consciousness into Cerebro as what remains of the X-Men turn to Forge to build a machine that can upgrade their powers to nearly god-like heights.
