Stingray
Stingray is a comic book character that first appeared in Tales To Astonish #95Stingray is an oceanographer and reluctant superhero. He invented his Stingray armor as both a deep-sea exploration tool and a superhero costume.
Origin
Walter Newell was an oceanographer that worked with the government. He was working on an experimental underwater city that was later destroyed by the Plunderer. During this time, he met and became friends with Namor the Sub-Mariner. When the U.S, government suspects the Namor of being in league with aliens plotting against the earth, Walter is ordered to get to the bottom of it. He designed himself a suit to make him equal to the task of finding the underwater king and stopping him if the allegations are true, he dons the exoskeleton-reinforced costume of special, water-filtering fabric and goes after him. Absolving the Sub-Mariner, Newell retains the suit and continues to use it as Stingray. He then helped Namor again along with the Inhuman Triton to investigate a group of Atlanteans who just sank an ocean liner. They found out that it was Namor's nemesis Attuma who was responsible for the attack. When Namor wanted to have a home in the surface world, Walter help him but they were unsucessful, although he found Namor's human father. This former Avenger used to work for Pacifica Institute of Technology and lived with his wife on the Hydro-Base, a sea-bound lab in the Atlantic which was used by the Avengers as a temporary base after the Avengers Mansion was destroyed. Because of this, Stingray became an official associate of the Avengers.During the adventure of the Serpent Crown, Stingray joined up with the Thing and Scarlet Witch. Then Iron Man confronted him in the events of the Armor Wars. Tony defeated him but later apologises to Walter when he discovered that the Stingray armor does not incorporate Stark technologies. Sometime after the Avengers came to their old base, the Hydro-Base was destroyed and Walter with his wife escaped and has continued their research in a new area. Walter came back as Stingray when all of the Avengers, both active and reserve, were summoned to fight of Morgan le Fey and later Kang the Conqueror when he tried to invade the earth.
During the Civil War, Stingray joined Captain America's Secret Avengers but after the Cap's surrender, he registered. Stingray is now training at Camp Hammond but he is also the Camp's swimming instructor and squad leader.
Powers
All of Stingray's powers come from his suit. His suit allows him to breathe underwater, swim at great speeds or fly short distances(small jets in the glider-membranes provide propulsion undersea and through the air), fire powerful electrical blasts, and it gives him an undefined level of superhuman strength and durability.
