    There's Only One Super Soldier

    The Story:

Steve Rogers receives intel that Jacob Erskine has perfected the Super Soldier Serum and plans on selling to the highest bidder.

    My Thoughts:

This four issue mini-series is written by Ed Brubaker, the same architect behind the main Captain America series that has won an Eisner Award. With the dawn of The Heroic Age beginning, Brubaker crafts a tale that involves people who are associated with people from Steve's past. When things aren't exactly what they seem, Steve has to be more than just heroic in order to stop the serum from falling into the wrong hands. The espionage feel in the first issue was awesome. I love Steve's new costume and seeing him in action reminded me of a James Bond movie the way he switched into a suit after gaining access to the building and blending into the crowd. It was nice to see Steve in a different type of atmosphere then we have seen in recent years.

Brubaker made use of all of Steve's skills in this story. Another highpoint came when a de-powered Steve Rogers is able to overcome the security guards without the serum active in him. I think Brubaker wrote that moment for all the skinny kids who get beat up all around the world. I'm sure plenty of people can relate to it.

The art is by Dale Eaglesham who does an amazing job. He draws Steve Rogers as if he's been doing it for years. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the main Captain America series. He clearly knows how to bring a script to life and made a great team with Brubaker. I really enjoyed the way he laid out the action sequences. The covers were by Carlos Pacheco. Some variants and sketches are included at the end which were a nice surprise.

This is a nice quick read and an introduction to a new age in Marvel comics. A Heroic Age and there's no one better to lead it then Steve Rogers. This is yet another great chapter of Steve's life that's just as compelling as the other stories crafted in recent years by Ed Brubaker. I highly recommend adding this to your collection as soon as possible.
