The Stepford Cuckoos are powerful telepaths, who can combine and therefore multiply their telepathic abilities to create a large and even more powerful hivemind.

Esme

Sophie

History

The Stepford Cuckoos are the cloned daughters of Emma Frost, made by the Weapon Plus program from Emma's ova cells whilst she lay in a coma after her Hellions were killed by Trevor Fitzroy. The difference in hair color must be from that of their unknown 'father', or, more accurately, gene donor. Upon arrival at the World (a bubble of accelerated spacetime used by Weapon X to rapidly grow experienced adult operatives), it was found that there were a thousand more daughters of Emma Frost, who had been created by John Sublime for the purpose of destroying all mutant life by focusing their telepathic hivemind on every mutant. They were Weapon XIV in the Weapons Plus program.

There were originally five of them - Celeste, Esme, Mindee, Phoebe, and Sophie, and they called themselves the Five-in-One. Sophie died stopping a riot caused by a boy named Quentin Quire (who had a crush on her), by taking a power-enhancing drug called kick to stop him, which led to an overexertion of her powers. We later find out that Esme was the first to take kick, to coerce Sophie into taking the drug as well to overexert her powers, as Esme wanted control of the group mind, the only way for her to get it was by weakening/killing Sophie as Sophie was the more dominant mind, Sophie was able to resist Esme's take-over attempts, none the less, Sophie succeeded in her efforts to help stop Quentin Quire, and was recognized as a 'Heroine of Open Day' which is what is marked on her Tombstone. After Sophie's untimely death, Four-in-One was the new name. Esme was killed by the man she was helping, pseudo X-Men member Xorn, at the same time that Jean Grey was killed. It was apparent that Esme had been working for Xorn the whole time, as she had developed a crush on him. However, in the events leading up to Esme's demise, she turned on Xorn and attempted to destroy his mind, Xorn retaliated reluctantly by manipulating Esme's metal earrings, reforming them into bullets and using them to pierce Esme's head. Esme died in Emma Frost's diamond arms, Emma's last words to Esme were '...you turned into such a wonderful little femme fatale in the end, didn't you? I’m ever so proud of all my girls but you ... I think I’m most especially proud of you, dear.' and Esme's last words to Emma were '...Nothing like you...’ After Esme's death this changed the girls to the Three-in-One. Kuan-Yin (Xorn) was later decapitated, and killed, by Wolverine.

Weapon XIV

The three remaining Stepford Cuckoos were members of the Corsairs up until they disbanded following M-Day. All three are still powered and remains as students at the Xavier Institute.

Phoenix

The Phoenix

The Cuckoo's Sacrafice: In Phoenix|Warsong we discovered that while it was planned for the cuckoos and their 'sisters' to control The Phoenix, as Dr Sublime created a machine that split The Phoenix into a thousand pieces so that each Cuckoo/Weapon XIV would contain a small fragment of her, The Phoenix chose Celeste as a primary host as she heard Celeste 'call' for her, by hearing the way Celeste longed to feel, to live, to burn.

Using Celeste as it's host, The Phoenix (aided by the Xmen who destroyed the machines that linked the Cuckoos) destroyed every 'sister' of the Weapon XIV, with the exception of Celeste, Mindee and Phoebe, and during the aftermath, as Celeste begged The Phoenix to leave her, The Phoenix decided she wanted to stay with Celeste, so Celeste divided her into three, so that each remaining cuckoo would have a Phoenix fragment trapped within their hearts, but in order for the fragments to never escape and wreak havoc, each Cuckoo's heart must now be forever in their organic diamond form, which means that they well never feel, ever again, the one thing that Celeste long for, the reason The Phoenix came to her, she sacraficed so that her fragment will never hurt again.

The Phoenix that caused all this, was only a fragment herself, as she revealed to Celeste, that she was only a single piece of The Phoenix, and that The Phoenix was separated in a billion billion pieces.

Powers

The Stepford Cuckoos are powerful telepaths, who can combine and therefore multiply their telepathic abilities to creat a large and even more powerful hivemind. Their telepathic powers include broadcasting/receiving thoughts, mind control, planting illusions, force blasts of pure psionic energy, seeing through another person's eyes and also are so powerful that they are one of the few people able to operate cerebra. The Stepford cuckoos are also considered to be omega level mutants. In Phoenix Warsong they were the avatars of the Phoenix who burns up anyone who isnt a omega level mutant such as Emma Frost. The Stepford Cuckoos could control the Phoenix instead of burning out. They also have turned their hearts into diamonds, each containing a piece of the Phoenix Force. This, somehow, makes them unable to feel emotions. In the Phoenix | Warsong story, they also seemed to be able to turn their entire bodies into diamond as well as their hearts, they were also able to fly and displayed pyrokinetic capabilities, though it is assumed that all these powers came from the Phoenix Force, it is yet to be discovered if the cuckoos still have any of the powers they possessed in this story since they still have The Phoenix inside of them.

    House of M

    Here Comes Tomorrow

    Earth-15104
The Stepford Cuckoos also exists on Earth-15104, also known as Here Comes Tomorrow. In this reality there was only three of them left, Celeste, Mindee and Phoebe, and they called themselves the Three-in-One. They also seem to have a self-destruct sequence within their consciousness and this is the first reference of the sisters being Weapon XIV.

    Earth-58163
On Earth-58163, House of M, all five Cuckoos were alive and well. Sophie still seemed to be the more dominant cuckoo and still had the urge to be a heroine. When she found out that David and Nori were going to Japan to find Nori's father (who was labeled as a human terrorist by S.H.I.E.L.D, who were also looking for him, but to put an end to him), Sophie decided that she wanted to help them and left her sisters to go to Japan. Sophie proved to be quite an asset to the team that went to Japan (which included Prodigy, Surge, Jubilee, Dust, Wallflower and Mercury), even though most of the human terrorists were somehow shielded from psionic attacks, Sophie still had enough power to manipulate some of their thoughts, and make them do as she commanded. She also helped the new mutants in a premature face-off with the Hellions, when Quill attacked Prodigy, she commanded Quill to surrender to her, which he did. She also was able to scan minds, which is how she learned that Wallflower was really working with the people of an experiment known as 'Project Genesis' which is what the New Mutants and the human terrorists were wanting to shut down, Wallflower quickly used her pheromones to make all the parties involved (New Mutants, Hellions and the human terrorists) hate each other so much that they would fight to the death. This brawl was ended by Mercury, who was immune to Wallflower's pheromone manipulation, Mercury killed Wallflower. Wind Dancer of the Hellions, cleared the pheromones in the air with her wind-manipulating powers, and Sophie, knowing that the pheromones only fueled hatred that was already there, started to use her psionics to strip the hatred so there would be know more fighting. Tragically, Sophie was gunned down by a human terrorist who was immune to her psionic manipulation, as she was trying to make peace, but the gunman refused to be at peace with mutant-kind and wanted to fight them. He was killed by Danielle Moonstar who was the leader of the Hellion Squad.

    X-Men: The End

    Earth-91172
On Earth-91172, a world ravaged by the Hulk, three of the cuckoos are alive. Mindee and Esme are the Two-in-one and Sophie has developed precognitive abilities. They are members of the Next Wave of Heroes - the last heroes of earth led by Quentin Quire. Other members are Patriot, Wiccan, Lightspeed and Speedball.

    X-Men: The End
In X-Men: The End there was also only three of them left, Celeste, Mindee and Phoebe, and they called themselves the Spikes. They all have individual appearances, such as curly blonde hair or a shaved head and golden glowing eyes, instead of blue or white as they are usually depicted.
