    I've been considering with aslan10000's argument about the cuckoo's unarmed combat and in a few comics featuring them i have seen the cuckoos use hand-to-hand. Kicking, punching, Hand chopping, So the do know unarmed physical combat!

    Having basic training in something does not equate to being an expert in something.  I can punch, kick & hand chop, but that doesn't make me an expert in unarmed combat.

    they can probably scan an expert martial artist to learn their skills, like they can do with most skills (eg flying a plane or lock-picking and stuff). plus most x-students will recieve some form of combat training in order to defend themselves.

    Of course they can, their are in a comic book. When was the last time you read a comic where the characters didn't know how to fight? Unless that was the story and angle the creators where going for.
