In this newest issue of static we can see him state that his powers are based on the electromagnetic spectrum....so would it be out there to assume that one day static will be able to do everything that magneto can...including non assisted flight?
Static
Character » Static appears in 185 issues.
Virgil Hawkins was exposed to a mutagenic gas that swept his city of Dakota, which gave him and other 'bang babies" superpowers. With the ability to control electromagnetism, Static joined the Teen Titans and continues to protect his city while serving on the team.
So is Static DC's Magneto power wise?
Well that's smply a matter of perception because when you get right down to it he's a mixture of the two. He manipulates the Electric Magnetic field, hence why he can do so much more then just hurl electricity at his foes, the more exotic things he does are in fact remminscient of Magneto. An as he gets older and grows into his powers, yeah he should be capable of everything Mags can do and more.

He's a weak weak weak Magneto
he'd kick magneto's ass if magneto were 17. considering he's an old man basically, its not even fair to judge. Plus, I have alot of respect for The late Mcduffie who was an incredible writer, and have read his work and know that his characters always are in a league of their own, and his motivation was that they weren't compared to other character's even if their powers were based on the same scientific fundamentals. Plus static has Brains for science and is growing impressively fast into learning battlefield strategies and show alot of tact in a fight. I have NO DOUBT that he could trash magneto by the time he was his age
I thought that was Dr Polaris.
Not ignoring that mcduffie stating that static has the potential to be on Magneto Level.

He actually told me in his forum that Static was close to Magneto in power level, which was absolute crap.
The potential is there, but that's it. For McDuffie to oversell his own creation when he's never written him as such means that he's on the 'white.' Or, maybe he's just a little overconfident.
@Static Shock: I would go for the overconfident, with McDuffie not knowing the higher end of magento powers.
@Death Certificate: Sounds about right, although he tried to say that he's written on and off for Marvel as if that's supposed to mean anything. LOL.

Obviously trying to hold some ground. Although McDuffie couldn't prove it, that wouldn't stop a another writer making static live up to his hype.
