    A Tribute to Dwayne McDuffie

     Cover

I like the cover but do not love it. I like how it looks real but I am no too crazy of Static’s face. I do like the logo of Static Shock it reminds me of the logo of the tv show.

    Story

Virgil’s uncle was in jail for 10 years when he did not deserve to be but today was the day that he was coming out. In jail he got into a fight and had heart problems but in jail no one did anything about it. So, he had a heart attack during a family gathering. He died before his 40 birthday.

    Best Part

I picked this issue up for two reasons. One reason was because I am a static shock fan because of the Teen Titans and the tv show, mostly the tv show. I use to wake up every morning early to watch static on the WB. I even watch some episodes now. But the second reason I bought this was because it was a tribute to Dwayne McDuffie, who died in 2011. He was a great writer and deserved to have a tribute and I think writing a Static Shock tribute was the best way to do that. This issue was about the death of Virgil’s uncle but in a way I think the uncle’s death also symbolized the death of Dwayne. Which I thought was great to have in the issue.

    Worst Part

I am more familiar with the Virgil from the cartoon and was a little disappointed that there were so many differences in the comic. Like Virgil’s mother still being alive and Richie now being in the comic book.

    Art

Something I really did not like in this issue was the art. It was very bulgy and sketchy. I feel like for a tribute issue the art could have been a lot better. I thought the art was way too dark and did not know how to draw shadows that well. This is something that really turned me off from the issue.

    Pick it up or not

    Pick it up!!!

A fitting tribute for one of Milestone's own 0

Synopsis: A special tribute issue for one of Milestone's greatest superhero. What's Good? I was hesitant on picking this up since Felicia Henderson's run with Teen Titans a while back was awful, but character wise, she captures Virgil very well. As a kid, I never took much notice on some of the social issues that McDuffie put in the series like drugs or racism, but as I got older, I realized those issues were addressed nicely. The story itself plays on some issues going on with wrongly accused ...

      R.I.P. Dwayne McDuffie 0

The Good: Static's face is a little odd, but overall it's a really nice cover. For a Milestone reader, it's extremely nostalgic to see Denys Cowan on art duties here. He's managed to update his art style a bit, but it still feels very old school. It's rough and jagged and almost outdated but it works. In traditional Static, the story has it's comedic moments, but was also very grounded and emotional. Felicia Henderson has a good grasp of how to write a Milestone story. She's also captured the ch...
