Conquest of The Adolescent
The Good: We get a more serious look at how Static balances his normal life and his superhero life. Or rather, how he definitely doesn't. Static isn't used to this gig at all, and he's sacrificing employment and suffering his mother's disappointment in order to save lives. It's kind of admirable, but also kind of sad. But most of all it's touching and interesting.
We get some more great uses of the shared universe. Static has an idol to look up to, even though he's never met him. Icon. This is possibly one of the best uses of a role model for a teen superhero, as there aren't many heroes in the Dakotaverse, yet they're still about as accepted in life as they are in the DC Universe. Icon is the perfect character for Static to idolize.
Static has such natural realtionships with his friends and family. His ride home with his friends feels like something any comic reader can associate with, and ditto for his banter with his sister.
Static's got a very interesting supporting cast who's slowly being developed. They don't fall into the category of most supporting characters in the normal life of a teen hero. They aren't overlooked, but neither are they overplayed. We've been getting a nice casual pacing to start us getting to know them, and they have a nice variety of personalities. It doesn't seem like most of them will play into his superheroics, but reaffirm the sense that his daily life is just as important as his superhero life.
The collateral damage is portrayed more realistically thant most superhero comics. We get injuried very qucikly into the battle, and Static actually prioritizes the safety of the civilians over defeating the villain. This shows us a hero with a very strong morality.
The Bad: Erm...
In Conclusion: 5/5
Once again, Static serves up some suficcient storytelling, with a lot of great character development, and a continued building of Static's 'world' within the expansive Dakotaverse. The writing is still top notch, and in the end I honestly have no complaints. I can see why it was decided that Static would get his own animated series.
