Starscream is second in command of the evil Decepticons, a race of sentient shape-shifting machines known as Transformers from the planet Cybertron.

Bio

The Decepticons are one half of two factions of sentient robots called Transformers from the planet Cybertron who have been at war for millenia. Their arch-enemies are the heroic Autobots. Starscream is second in command under Megatron, the all powerful leader of the Decepticons. Starscream wants nothing more than to wrest control of the Decepticons from Megatron often coming up with schemes to do so. In his most recent attempt, Starscream powered himself up with Ore-13 an experimental version of raw Energon, the substance which powers all Transformers, and sought to do battle with Megatron for control of the Decepticons. Starscream had thought that he had won, but Megatron proved to be too powerful for even the suped-up Starscream. Megatron then blew a hole right through Starscream seemingly vanquishing the traitor ... but Starscream has been known to resurface from fatal injuries before.

War Within

Starscream on Cybertron
Starscream on Cybertron

Before the war, Starscream fought in the gladiatorial arenas on Kaon, along with other Decepticons and Grimlock. Later in the war, while the Decepticons are monitoring events on Cybertron, Starscream notices that the Autobots seem to be preparing for evacuation and while Megatron says it’s a bold move, he says that they’re not going anywhere. Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp are then sent to sector zero-six by Megatron, to wipe out an Autobot command post. While on their way there, Starscream notices Grimlock sitting in the old arenas and tries to goad him to join the Decepticons and also tells him of their mission and says that he can either warn the Autobots there, or join Starscream in picking off survivors. As they arrive at sector zero-six, Thundercracker and Skywarp still feel as though he shouldn’t have told Grimlock about their plan but Starscream assures them that deep down, Grimlock is one of them. However, they soon find that the whole base is empty and the mainframes had wiped all tactical data and that Grimlock had left a bomb and a message that he doesn’t like the Autobots much but he likes the Decepticons even less. But Skywarp warps them out before the bomb detonates. Starscream then talks about how everything they’ve done, from fighting in the arenas before the war, to the mission they were given, was all an exercise in pain and that it’s been Megatron’s way of controlling them. When they return to Kaon, Starscream asks Megatron what he’s really up to as his mission seemed pointless and he sees he’s now attacking Iacon, which was decided before to be a bad tactic. Megatron then tells Starscream that he discovered that Cybertron was once a massive starship but that any attempt to implement a repair program for its massive engines would have been detected, so he started an uprising to keep the powers-that-be engaged. He then tells him that he also worked to isolate Optimus because he believes the matrix is the power source for the engines. Starscream laughs at this and tells him the matrix is nothing more than a bauble and that he’s just chasing shadows. However, Megatron then strikes at Starscream for questioning him and then Megatron goes after Prime himself, after learning that he took out Soundwave and the Insecticons. When Megatron and Prime meet, Starscream appears from above and destroys the bridge the two of them were standing upon, causing them to fall down below. Starscream then returns to Kolkular, where he tells everyone that Megatron died and that he’s in charge now. The first thing he does is try to find out what Megatron had in mind believing that if what he said was true, then he can remake Cybertron in his own image. He learns that there seems to be a second layer to Cybertron and decides to begin the mechaforming process of the planet at Iacon. Once there, Scrapper warn Starscream of the problems of starting under Iacon but Starscream neglects this and forces him to begin the process of activating the planet’s turbines and the mechaforming process. A group of Autobots then attack them as they begin and soon the process goes out of control and the planet begins tearing itself apart but Starscream refuses to stop, saying that if he can’t have Cybertron, then no one can. Starscream then retreats, while the Autobots manage to stop the turbines.

Megatron Origin

Starscream and the Seekers are presented to Megatron

Starscream was among the seekers, who were presented to Megatron as flight-capable combatants. However, instead of fighting with him in the arena, Megatron sends them to attack Senator Decimus as a message to Cybertron. While Megatron is sending a message across Kaon, Sentinel Prime's forces attack and capture everyone, including Starscream, filling up the prison beyond its capacity. Starscream is given an early hearing and in it he tells the Chair that they were the ones who created them, they were always there, and that all Megatron did was give them a badge. As he was going to be taken back to his cell, he and Soundwave then begin the second phase of Megatron's plan. They attack and then free every prisoner, including ones that were already there so that they could join their army. Starscream then joins with other Decepticons in wreaking havoc across Kaon

Infiltration

Starscream, after charging himself with the ore-13

Starscream sends out Runamuck, Runabout, and Thundercracker to retrieve a data storage device which was stolen from a facsimile by Verity Carlo. While they do that, Starscream obtains a sample of ore-13 and he then sends Skywarp and Blitzwing out to destroy several targets to get rid of any trace left behind and then sends them to destroy the Decepticon command bunker in Nebraska. As they do this, Starscream and Astrotrain dig out more of ore-13 resin from under the Oregon base and then prepare to metabolize it and power it up. Starscream then begins charging himself up with the ore-13 and hears that Megatron was in the Nebraska bunker and took out Skywarp and Blitzwing and that he’s heading to the Oregon bunker. Upon coming out, Starscream reveals that he knew Megatron would come after them to set them right since they broke protocol and that with the ore-13 powering him up, he believes he can take on Megatron. When Megatron arrives, Starscream unleashes an onslaught on Megatron but all his efforts did little more than annoy Megatron who then proceeds to punish Starscream, leaving him badly damaged.

Starscream appears in Transformers: Prime and is voiced by Steven Blum.

A cunning Decepticon, Starscream secretly wishes to take command of the Decepticons from Megatron. He and Soundwave and some troopers initially are the only Decepticons on Earth with Megatron gone elsewhere, leaving Starscream in charge. They find various energon mines and set up bases there. One day, some Decepticons capture the Autobot Cliffjumper and bring him to Starscream, he proceeds to kill Cliffjumper with a single attack. Later, Megatron's location is discovered and they use some of their energon to transport Megatron through the space bridge. Megatron reveals that he has discovered the substance known as dark energon, which is said to be the blood of Unicron the destroyer and has the power to revive the dead. Megatron was then about to ask Starscream if he was willing to sacrifice himself to test out that power but Starscream then presented Cliffjumper's dead body to Megatron so it was used on Cliffjumper instead, reviving him but turning him into a mindless zombie in the process. Because Cliffjumper had come back, his life signal was received by the Autobots and they went to the mine where the Decepticons were to find him. Starscream was then ordered by Megatron to destroy the mine to try to kill the Autobots and he reluctantly destroyed the mine, but the Autobots managed to escape.
