The legend of the Starman, harnessing the stars for greater good of humanity, stretches from the dawn of the atomic age through the millennia.
It begins with wealthy astronomer Ted Knight, who in 1939, discovered a new band of stellar radiation that he used to power the gravity rod. The Gravity Rod was a hand-held wand that could harness solar energy and turn it into concentrated beams. As it's name implies, the Gravity Rod also manipulated gravity, allowing flight, and the ability to redirect or negate the motion of bullets. Crafting a super-hero costume he took to the skies as Starman.
Knight's heroic career led to his protecting not only of his beloved Opal City, but all of the U.S. through his work with the Justice Society Of America and the All-Star Squadron. He battled the Mist I again and again, creating an enmity that would last for decades. Knight, who was haunted by his role in the creation of the atomic bomb, resigned from the JSA after helping them beat the dimensional conqueror known as Stalker. Soon after this, he suffered the first of a series of nervous breakdowns and bouts of depression, which led him to temporarily give up his heroic career.

Ted Knight declared his son David as the new Starman, after his Retirement. David, now Starman, was eager to make a name for himself as Opal City's new protector. The sensation of power was intoxicating to him, and he swore to bring honor to his father's legacy. In his brief career, David foiled a mugging, a car theft and a drug deal. The current Starman is from the 31st century and used to be a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes as Star Boy. On a mission to the 21st Century, Starman wasn't meant to come along. Because he wasn't calibrated for the journey, his mind was affected. He's a little unstable now ( Damage has referred to him as "Cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs").
Thom is a paranoid schizophrenic he has residence in both a mental hospital and the JSA headquarters. He enjoys saving the day and racing back to his room at the hospital in time for Sloppy Joes! He talks in riddles and has trouble concentrating due to voices in his head this causes him much emotional pain. He seems to have a mental connection to his fellow Legionnaires. When the Legionnaires decided to return to the 31st Century Thom stayed behind because he decided it was his place to stay behind and defend current Earth. While trying to put out a fire he opened up a black hole that opened a portal to Earth 22 and pulled Kal-L of Earth 22 to our Earth.
He is now part of the Justice Society Of America.
Farris Knight is the Starman of Justice Legion Alpha in the 853rd century. He lives in a space station orbiting Uranus (no jokes, now) and uses a cosmic artifact called
the Quarvat in leu of a Cosmic rod or belt. Farris Knight rescued Ted Knight from Deathbolt in the 20th century but in turn betrayed him in order to steal his kryptonite for Solaris and return to the 853rd century.
Thom Kallor was born with the power to draw mass from the stars and induce it into any object thereby making it super-heavy. His power is not gravitic in nature. The reason there is no change in the bulk of the object he is affecting is because the mass he induces into objects is compressed, along with the normal matter, so that the weight increases but not the size. Star Man can turn his power on himself, causing him to sink into the ground. His powerful radiations can cause walls and doors to collapse under their own super-induced weight. He can also use his power on ion-force screens by making the electrified particles heavy enough to fall to the ground. He temporarily had Kryptonian level powers caused by him being caught in the tail of a comet, but those powers eventually faded leaving only his original density powers.
Ted Knight, the first Starman, developed the Cosmic Rod to collect energy radiating from the stars.
