    Fathers and Their Sons

There were a number of interesting new characters to come out of DC's Zero Hour: Crisis in Time. However, none of them were quite like Starman. None of the other characters or titles were written by James Robinson, penciled by Tony Harris, inked by Wade Von Grawbadger or edited by the legendary Archie Goodwin. Together.

Starman: Sins of the Father lays the foundation of what kind of adventures Jack Knight would have, bringing together the color and splash of the Golden Age with the science fiction of the Silver; the trippy nature or the Bronze; the heroic idealism of the post-Crisis era, and the dark Gothic nature of the Modern Age.

This first story arc showed a rare unique freshness. Built on the stories told by Roy Thomas in All-Star Squadron, Infinity, Inc. and Young All-Stars as much as Roger Stern's late '80's Starman.

The introduction by Mike Allred celebrates Robinson's affinity for nostalgic collecting, a trait he passes on to his namesake Jack, which makes the connection with comic book fans. What is a comic book fan but a collector? An individual that searches for rare old things. Allred's introduction celebrates this as much as Harris' art, Von Grawbadger's inking and Wright's coloring.

This is a pretty straight-forward collection: Introduction, story collection, cover gallery.

The only unusual thing is the new cover by Tony Harris and Brian Frey. It just seems out of place with the other covers.

Still an enjoyable read of the "Sins of the Father" storyline.
