It is amazing how James Robinson has managed to carve out a corner of the DC Universe for Opal City.
Hey, I know that when I read Action Comics, Superman, The Adventures of Superman, Superman: The Man of Steel, Superman Confidential, Superman Adventures or just about anyplace that Superman appears that Metropolis is just a little bit unrealistic. By design, Metropolis is too good to be true. The same goes for Gotham City. "Hell on Earth"? Not every city can be as grand as Metropolis or as bad as Gotham City. But Opal...I bet could probably open up a Rand McNally Road Atlas and find Opal City. The Opal could be in any state, maybe on the eastern seaboard somewhere. It isn't any more than it could be or any less than it should be.
Find the trade paperback collection, the back issues or wait for the next Starman Omnibus collection.
****Spoiler alert**** -
This issue starts by resolving Kyle's death at the conclusion of the initial Sins of the Father story arc. Jack was drawn into battle with Kyle in the sky above Opal; and Kyle's death lead to Nash's snap. Jack now had his arch-nemesis. Interesting that The Mist family has a Joker-like quality about them - it's not so much important to know their full, complete names. The Mist is simply The Mist; and his children are Kyle and Nash. I don't really need to know much more than that. Who cares who or what The Joker was before - The Joker is the story, not what he was before. The same is true of The Mist, and in turn Nash.
She's back here with a vengeance.
It all starts so innocently. Peacefully enough. Jack and Ted coming from court. Grundy and Mikaal outside the observatory. A pool game.
And then, page 12. Interesting how James Robinson mixes Julie Newmar from McKenna's Gold, Hoagy Carmichael, and Ray Charles. Amazing. Everything fits together like pieces of a puzzle. Just watch, and see...
