Since the late ‘40’s Starman has defended Opal City. Ted Knight retired and passed on the Cosmic Rod to his eldest son, David. Following David’s murder, Ted’s youngest son, Jack has become Starman. He gets help from the O’Dare family, four brothers and a sister, who are all Opal City police officers and The Shade, a former super-villain. James Robinson, Tony Harris, Wade Von Grawbadger, John Workman, Gregory Wright, Archie Goodwin and Chuck Kim present Jack Knight’s adventures as Starman.

In a second Tale of Times Past, related by The Shade, Starman/ Ted Knight gathers Jay Garrick/The Flash, Alan Scott/The Green Lantern, Rex Tyler/The Hourman and Dr. Charles McNider/Doctor Mid-Nite to confront the wave of chaos perpetrated on Opal City by the Rag Doll cult.
