    Pleasant Suprise

The following is a review for both Star Wars: Rebellion #15 and #16.

This two-part Star Wars: Rebellion part of the overarching "Vector" story took me by suprise. Is this really the same book that grew out of the horribly awful Star Wars: Empire comics? Apparently not.

But wait... I'm getting ahead of myself.

I have not read an issue of this series. Star Wars: Empire was bad. Like, it was REALLY bad. Yet, I had read so much of the series anxiously hoping for it to get better that by the time the series was almost over I simply purchased the remaining issues so that I could finish out the series. Anyway you look at it, Empire just sucked. Take it from a guy who read every issue.

So what does that have to do with Star Wars: Rebellion? Well Dark Horse isn't stupid. They realized that their Empire comics weren't selling so they scrapped the whole series and gave it a new name... Rebellion, which picks up right where Empire left off. To put it plainly, Star Wars: Empire and Star Wars: Rebellion are the same exact comic series but with a different name.

Therefore, since I knew how horrible Empire was, I never bothered to pick up a single issue of Rebellion, fearing its equally horribleness. But then, the oh-so-awsome "Vector" crossover came along, linking all the different Star Wars books together. Recently, I've been digging this crossover and I wanted to continue reading it, which meant that I would need to buy the two issues of Rebellion. So I was essentially forced to purchase these issues for the sake of finishing out the crossover. As you can tell by the title of my review... my reaction was not what I expected.

These two issues were not bad. The plot continued right where the two most recent issues of Star Wars: Dark Times left off, making these four issues in total, like one complete story, whereas the four KOTOR issues at the start of this crossover felt a bit sepperate. Did that make sense? Essentially these two issues and the two Dark Times issues felt like one whole story.

The plot was simple, but told well. Think some people have had awful lives? You could argue that about a ton of people. Anakin surely had an awful life. He was born a slave, his mom died in his arms, his preggers wife "betrayed" him and was then killed by his own hand, he turned evil and then felt remorse for being a dick to his son. Some could argue that Yoda had an awful life. He saw his Jedi order fall underneath darkness and he died without seeing Luke win. What about General Grevious? What about Han Solo? What about... TONS of people. All over the place, you find people with awful lives. But I can almost garantee that NONE OF THEM have lives nearly as awful as Celeste, who has been manipulated, taken over by a Sith, mind controled, forced in a four thousand year slumber of darkness, betrayed, beaten, forced to give into the Dark Side's power, abandoned on a small moon all by herself and then once somebody finally shows up years later, they come with blasters raised.

So to put it simply... Celeste has the worste life ever.

You really get that from reading these two issues. Rob Williams (the writer for these two issues) did a great job explaining just how horrible Celeste's life is. Though it should seem obvious that this character has the worste luck ever, Rob's writing really makes you feel for her and you can really see just how much everything totally sucks.

In terms of art... one of the panels was amazingly detailed and so brilliant. The others? They were above average, but I've seen better. For the most part, it was pretty consistant.

I was pleasantly suprised here. I didn't have high expectations, but I was definitally suprised. It was nice and I can honestly say that I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

    Art - 7 out of 10
    Story - 7.5 out of 10
