The final arc of Legacy begins...

Its surprising that in almost 4 years, Star Wars Legacy, one of Dark Horse's best selling comic book series is apparently coming to an end in this last arc Extremes. This series has so much potential on being great because of the possibilities it brings in Star Wars universe.
That being said, Star Wars issue 48 doesn't disappoint in the first part of Extremes. Cade Skywalker decides to make war against the Sith not as a Jedi or Sith, but as the Sith's worst enemy. Meanwhile, the Sith order is slowly coming apart as from the last issue, Darth Krayt's body was missing and there seems to be an apparent traitor in the ranks. Elsewhere, the Empire is also going in shambles as most of the higher ups are questioning the Sith.

    Pros:

The story for part I of Extremes does not slows down. Besides the action scenes, there is a lot of dialogue, but it doesn't hinder this issue. John Ostrander knows what he wants with the characters. Cade Skywalker isn't Luke Skywalker (for if you have been reading this since the first issue you should know this by now). Each page made me want more, even the last page. For not slowing down, this issue delivers a lot of information, however the structure of it is balanced.

As always, Jan Duursema artwork shines with this issue as in her previous works. As I said with the story not letting up, the Duursema's artwork fits the action just right. There are a couple of planets this issue goes to and the background and environment just looks right. I love how even the minor characters such as most of the Sith minions look despite being minor characters.

The ending is predictable, yet satisfying. Judging that if you have been keeping up with the series, you will see the ending coming as well.

    Cons:

I worry about the direction of how the series might end. Since this is the apparent end of Legacy, I'm afraid that because they are only 2 issues left, the story might be rushed. Granted, this issue has a lot to digest because of so many things happening at once, however, if you have been keeping up with everything till now, its not a problem.

Overall: Extremes seems to be shaping up in a good direction. As I said before in my cons, I hope the last two issues doesn't rush everything at once. Legacy has been on of Dark Horse best Star Wars comics along with Knights of the Old Republic. Cannot wait for next issue.
