    The Enterprise is sent back in time to 1968 to observe Earth's history at a critical moment. Upon arrival they accidentally intercept a transporter transmission from a great distance, beaming a man who says his name is "Gary Seven", and a black cat he calls "Isis", aboard the ship. Seven claims that he has been sent by an advanced alien race to prevent World War III, but Captain Kirk doesn't trust him and has him detained until he can figure out who he really is.

    Excellent Story Hampered by Erratic Character 0

    Gary Seven and Isis make adjustments to a rocketThe episode "Assignment: Earth" could have been one of the best episodes of the series. It features some excellent performances, including Robert Lansing guest starring as Gary Seven, a mysterious stranger equipped with technology beyond even that of The Federation who has been sent back in time to 1968 to alter the course of human history.
