Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. We've sort of had an unofficial Guardians of the Galaxy month going on with all the merchandise from the movie and comics. This week, we're going to continue that with a look at Star-Lord from the Marvel Legends Infinite series.

As with past Marvel Legends series, this is part of a build-a-figure set. Buying all six figures allows you to bould an oversized Groot. The unfortunate thing is, you'll likely not see all of these figures in stores.

Star-Lord comes with Groot's left arm.

Star-Lord comes with his, now, signature red coat, two guns, an orb, walkman, headphones, and a second head. This allows you do mix up however you might want to position him for display.

Also to help give you more options, there are plenty of points of articulation so you can set him up however you want. On his back, you can see the pouch he's carrying. Wonder what could be in there. Maybe his walkman and cassettes.

The detail in his boots is pretty cool. If you open up his coat, you can get a better look at them, including his little rockets on the side.

I mentioned the second head. You can pop off his helmeted one and swap them if you want a better look at Star-Lord's mug.

The headphones look a little big. But that's really the only way you can put the on over his head. And I'm assuming the little orange thing is his Walkman.

He also comes with an orb. If you seen the trailer or any of the info for the movie, apparently this orb is something Ronan wants and it cause big problems for the entire universe. It's basically up to Star-Lord and the other Guardians to save everyone.

I really have a hard time buying this line of figures. The cost is pretty much right around that of the Diamond Selects figures which typically come with bases and have better sculpts. I also wish that this line of figures had a base that attached them all together in the lineup from the trailers and promo materials. I still might pick this line up, though I'm not crazy about the sculpts on many of the faces.

@jonny_anonymous Richard Ryder and Iron Man in his Mk III Space Armor are the two figures in the line who aren't from the film. They have the two best sculpts imo.

Impressive detail. Marvel Legends hasn't lost their touch.

Whats sad is I'm probably going to get even one of these figures entirely to build groot. Just because he's my favorite character

@protoflash: I sincerely wish you luck in finding all the figures. Unless you plan on ordering online somewhere. That's what I hate about the build-a-figures. There's always those that try buying the more interesting ones so they can try selling at a jacked up price. No thanks.

@g_man: Yeah there are a few people selling the whole set on ebay for about $150. I was just gonna do that as soon as my next paycheck comes in in a couple weeks.

I haven't seen the figure- or any GotG figures for that matter- in stores where I live(I live in bum freakin' Egypt), but I'm keeping my eyes peeled. Shoot, we haven't even got all the Cap WS figures, I had to order the Winter Soldier & I'm still looking for WW2 Cap. But I really hope to find this guy, he looks awesome, great detail, like all the accessories & the whole space-cowboy swagger. Never thought I'd be a Star-Lord fan, but the movie & the Legendary Star-Lord comic has made me one.

I do prefer my Star-Lord less Westerny though. Oh well. All I have to do is wait 6 or 7 issues until his new look starts growing on me and someone from Marvel will just change it again. Lol.

Hmmmm I was kinda wondering if it would've been better if the trench coat was made of cloth instead of molded plastic to kinda improve articulation if possible.

Really? I work at Target and no joke, all we had for like a month was just the WW2 Cap figure. We just recently got a few Winter Soldier and even a Black Widow figures in. I think we also got the "special ops" Cap figure (wearing the suit he wore at the beginning of TWS) as well.

I was thinking of getting the Winter Soldier figure, but I dislike how they have his chest colored with a brown vest instead of the darker brown/black vest he wears in the actual movie. :(

But anyways, if you're having trouble finding the WW2 Cap, you could always try online as that's probably the best place to look at this point. Seems like most stores are slowly pushing out the Cap toys in favor of the GotG ones.

you know...i'm really "meh" about these figures. i saw Star Lord the other day. his non-masked head just looked off. i did pick up Rocket, which ended up being a little disappointing.

that being said, i am pretty stoked about this movie. maybe after i see it, i'll totally regret not getting most of the Legends figures.

The stores in my area- Wal-Mart, ToysRus, Target, K-mart, all of 'em- they're really behind & it's kinda weird the things they get in, & the things they don't. For example, we got the 3 3/4 Cap WS figures, but very few of the Marvel Legends ones- but we get a buttload of things from the new TMNT movie(God, those things look horrible.) I saw exactly 2 WW2 Caps, one at Wal-Mart, the other at ToysRUs, & both had major paint issues, & I haven't seen any more. I haven't seen the Widow at all, & WW2 Cap & the Widow are really the only ones I need. You're right, I'll probably have to break down & go online to get WW2 Cap, but BW is so expensive online- freakin' scalpers. Around May I had saved up some money & ordered the Disney Store exclusive WS figure & the ML movie figure WS at the same time.(On the latter I agree, I wish they had useddarker colors & gave him more & better weapons. I scratch my head about that weird red gun they gave him.) I hope they do better with GotG, I'd at least like to get Star-Lord at store price & where I can do my own quality control, & the Richard Rider Nova, that sucker is awesome, & the scalpers online are going way overboard with him. They're getting the GotG posters in & everything around here, so I'm hopeful. Collecting is a tough game where I live.
