The Science and Technology Advanced Research Laboratories, usually shortened to S.T.A.R. Labs, was a research organization founded by a scientist named Garrison Slate, who wanted a nationwide chain of research laboratories unconnected to the government or any business interests.

S.T.A.R. Labs often provides scientific guidance for superheroes when they need it and have been instrumental in saving the world on many occasions. They have a strong influence in Metropolis and usually give assistance to the likes of Superman.

Over time, many have gotten aid from S.T.A.R Labs aside Superman, in the New 52 Static works at Star Labs New York and Cyborg was made there. The tech made at Star Labs is used in Red Robin's wings and kept Bart Allan together.

Smallville (TV Series)

S.T.A.R. Labs (aka Swann Technology and Research)was frist introduced into the "Smallville"-Continuity after the end of the TV Series. It was shown in the comics, that S.T.A.R. Labs was founded by Virgil Swann.
