And everybody already knew that Stan's straight-up gangsta...
And everybody already knew that Stan's straight-up gangsta...

I suppose you can have a Marvel movie without a cameo from Stan the Man - - and there have been a couple, I believe - - but we all know it just wouldn’t feel complete. It’s like a sundae without a cherry, an ice water without the lemon slice. In fact, it’s pretty much a given that, whenever a new Marvel flick’s announced, you’re guaranteed to see him show up. Though, sometimes, the order of these things gets a little, well, out of order.

Waves were made recently after Ain’t It Cool reported on Stan mentioning off-handedly at a panel recently that he’d be filming his DR. STRANGE movie right after he did his one for CAPTAIN AMERICA. The thing is… last we heard, DR. STRANGE only had screenwriters (the duo behind CONAN and COWBOYS & ALIENS, and here, he’s talking like the movie’s right around the corner. When questioned about it later, Stan admitted that he didn’t know anything beyond the fact that there’s a movie in the works. He doesn’t know if there’s a director, he doesn't know if there's a star... or anything.

So it’s a lapse lingua, perhaps. Although, let’s be real… the DR. STRANGE movie is going to happen eventually and if Stan’s available, you know he’s eventually going to film some scene with the sorcerer supreme. This actually might be a fun time to review all the cameos he’s filmed so far... == TEASER ==

My favorite's the one with him sippin' the Hulk juice. I figure that he explains him ripping off his shirt and trying to Hulk out when he guested on THE SIMPSONS.There’s nobody who gets more attention for bit parts (some as short as 30 seconds) as Stan the Man. You’ll probably even recall how he petitioned the Academy to start a new category just for that kind of work.

I remember Stan saying at one point that he wanted to be an actor as a young man. It might have been a few decades in coming, but he's gotten his wish. Also, while we’re on the subject of creators meeting their creations, does anybody else remember when homeless-man Todd McFarlane met Michael Jai White Spawn in a dark alley in his movie? Would you want Stan meeting Strange the same way?

You know when I watched the cameo video it made me want to see a show with Stan Lee and Lou Feriggno as detectives, that would have been way better than the 03 Hulk flick

Stan has been saying for years Dr. Strange is the movie he wants to see made. Perhaps he knows it wont happen in his lifetime and he wants his cameo filmed before he kicks the bucket.

Wouldn't be the first time Stan got ahead of himself or "leaked" info.  Whenever I see a Marvel movie I always look for him, just waiting for him to pop up on screen.  Sometimes its more exciting than the film itself.

Aside from the first Blade movie, that's some really graceful bullet-dodging on Stan's part.

A Dr. Strange movie ought to work pretty easily.  Thematically and emotionally, Strange's origin is pretty much the same as Iron Man's; just swap magic for technology.   I'd like to see True Blood's Stephen Moyer play Dr. Strange (not Dr. Doom, as rumored last week).

Clearly you missed it, because Stan and Lou Ferrigno walk side by side right past bruce in the Ang Lee Hulk movie. The cluip is in that video up top.

Punisher, Elektra and Blade  also were not created in any part by Stan though, as he usually participates in movies he has helped create the titular character for.

I just love how Mr. Lee continues to this day to bask in the success he ows to Ditko and Kirby.  And has anyone seen his new Soldier Zero comic? The one that's a complete rip-off of Green Lantern.

Yeah, Stan's done a pretty good job at hyping himself up and keeping it vague who exactly did what in those early Marvel days. His lack of significant post-Silver Age output is somewhat telling.especially when contemporaries keep their level of work up for decades. But people treat him like a god for things like the drug abuse issue of Spider-Man, thinking he heroically bucked the CCA when actually the US Health Department was behind it. You see the same thing in D&D with the deification of Gary Gygax, a guy also credited for a lot of work that was done by his partner. He who promotes himself the most wins.

He's Stan the man Lee, how can he not be in Marvel movies.  I loved it when he was on HEROES and extended his bus driver scene by adlibing a few lines and I was totally floored when I saw him on that show Identity standing up there, that was so cool, I know its not movies but heck it was still awesome.

Actually Stan came up with the idea for all of his characters on his own, so he has earned his success, it is only the characters' appearance that was created by the artists and Stan would tell you himself that they deserve some credit for that... credit which they got as well.

Strange is my favorite comic book hero, but i'm worried. He has been neutered by Bendis and the Doc that we know and love has been MIA for quite some time. I really, really, really hope someone who knows what they're doing takes the reins or I may roid rage. I wish Neil Gaiman and Guillermo Del Toro were still attached...oh well.

Both of them are specialists at the top of their fields: Tony, electronics technology and such; Strange, medicine.  They also have the same weakness:  Hubris.  An external force puts them in danger of losing everything.  Tony is kidnapped; Strange loses his hands in an car accident.  Then, at the urging of a wise sage, they then both have to dig down into the dark recesses of their souls to find an inner strength they didn't realize they had, gaining humility and a sense of greater purpose.  Tony uses his weapons for peace instead of war; Strange uses his hands to heal damage in the magical/spiritual realm.

It's a pretty common anti-hero quest story.  (And I'm talking about an actual, literal anti-hero, not the way people mistakenly call Punisher and Deadpool anti-heroes.)   You could put Green Arrow and a bunch of other characters into this same breakdown and flesh out a good origin story.
