" @E.I.S.A.M.: I guess cause they like the costume design? In my opinion, she looks like Ketchup and Mustard girl. "She looks more like, "If I use black widows symbol I'll be sued, and if I use the same colors and name as spidey, I'll be sued, so I'll just be ambiguous about the entire situation and hope no one asks... girl. "
What is the main appeal of Spider-Woman?
Yeah.... But if you really want to know the honest to god, true and absolute reason that spider-woman is so prominent right now, it is this.... Bendis loves Spider-Woman.
As I stated before, he wanted to use her for Alias, but Marvel couldn't let him. He got to write an Avengers book, and so he put Spider-Woman on it.... and then he went crazy.
He started writing two Avengers books out of three a year later, both somehow found a way to have Spider-Woman in them. A year later the he was writing two out of four, with Spider-Woman featuring prominently into one. All of which he helped create. All of which Marvel said yes to, because hey, they were making money. Now He's writing the two main Avengers books out of four give-or take, and they have Spider-Woman once again featured prominently.
Bendis is crazy about Spider-Woman, and in general, and Marvel wont say no to him because he's been making them money. What he wants, he gets. And he wants Spider-Woman. And he's gonna make sure you, me, and everyone else wants her weather they like it or not. Just like the Sentry... and we know how that turned out.....
Also, it annoys me how continuity doesn't matter outside of New Avengers to Bendis. I mean, HELICARRIER KILLING SENTRY/VOID?! Bull!
And A Chalk Board has more persoanlity than spider woman.
To me Spider-Woman doesn't fit right for the main Avengers team, since she returned after Secret Invasion, it would kind of make more sense to put her on New Avengers since she's kinda "new" to the world right now. Plus New Avengers has three females on the team, Avengers just have one and the rest is all guys, I mean why not put Ms. Marvel on the team with Spider-Woman, or why not use She-Hulk, or maybe bring in some newer faces like Invisible Woman, she'd be great addition to the Avengers line-up, plus it would be nice to see her in an environment other than the FF and show people why she's considered a powerhouse (and I know I'm not the only one who feel's this way about Sue). Or why not bring in some more female X-ladies? I mean why does Wolverine and Beast get to be the only X-Men/Avengers?
She's huge because Bendis loves her so much and has made her his go to female. Dosn't make sence that shes on avengers and Ms.marvel isn't (i like Ms.Marvel way way more) but i just finished reading new avengers #1 and i liked it way way way more then Avengers #1 so i stoped caring at that point. At least my Ms.Marvel is in the better book (so far)
" @Gylan Thomas: Wow that's just sad, Marvel will be the but end of every joke. Well i guess they could use a hooker angle on X-Woman then and it actually basically be true because the guy who made her. But seriously, theres alot of talented artists that need more coverage and they chose porn artists instead. And A Chalk Board has more persoanlity than spider woman. "Surely it really depends who's writing her.
I liek spider-woman. Enjoyed her short lived Bendis series.
Any fictional character is only as good as the person writing them.
" @E.I.S.A.M.: I know the Bendis thing, but I want to believe it's more than that. I thought there was at least some fan driven movement behind it. Also, it annoys me how continuity doesn't matter outside of New Avengers to Bendis. I mean, HELICARRIER KILLING SENTRY/VOID?! Bull! "There really wasn't a huge outcry for Jessica Drew. But there wasn't a huge outcry for a hit-man monkey, and they did it anyway. That's kinda Marvel's thing now. It's not your universe anymore. They should just use the tag line; We just do s*** just to do it.
And that whole Helicarrier hitting Void-ery felt like it was taken right out of Justice League: Star crossed. In fact, I felt like I was watching a JLU re-run, crossed with Secret Invasion, and Secret War.
Seriously, I don't know why everyone is praising Brian Bendis right now. He's a good writer, but his Avengers stuff is his weakest, most pointlessly boring stuff. I say if you like him, criticize him so he'll do better work, or leave so some one else could clean up his mess.... Sorry. I'm chugging hater-aid.
Besides the massive cop out that was the end of Siege and the fact that Dark Avengers were not used to their full potential in their own series, it just becomes a bit annoying how he controls almost the Marvel U right now. Hell, New Avengers was the only series to get a finale!
@Kid_Zombie: I like Ms.Marvel alot more than Spider-Woman also because of many factors, and since she was once posted to be like the Wonder Woman of the MU (Ms Marvel im talking about). I dont know why she isnt in. But i just hope they dont lose her at all (MM again).
@Gylan Thomas: Yeah your right i guess it does depend on who writes the character but i havent found one writer that actually makes me like her at all. That and shes not the most original character theres so many spider-woman now that alot have to be killed or get renamed so you know Jessica Drew is number 1 on it. But still i liked herish in Mighty Avengers, but then she was the Skrull Queen. So maybe its my spider phobia coming out in to comics as well as real life lol
You know, when you think about it, it's all one big cop out. Not just siege, but the entire dark sage he was spinning.
" @E.I.S.A.M.: Don't worry, I'm a little fed up with him too. Besides the massive cop out that was the end of Siege and the fact that Dark Avengers were not used to their full potential in their own series, it just becomes a bit annoying how he controls almost the Marvel U right now. Hell, New Avengers was the only series to get a finale! "
It all started with Secret War, which basically was Nick Fury's exit from S.H.I.E.L.D. The story goes...
The next chapter, is Avengers Disassembled. Basically, Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, goes crazy out of nowhere and kills a bunch of Avengers, and screws with a few others. The ordeal leaves everyone left standing heart broken and unwilling to go on and carry the Avengers forward. Wanda is left in the care of her father, Magneto, and his friend, Charles Xavier.
The following chapter is New Avengers. Basically, it's what it sounds like. A new team of Avengers. But with this book, all the ground work for what's to come is laid down. Something secret and sinister is happening in the savage land. Illegal Vibranium weapons are being made by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. There is a a conspiracy within the once nobel organization. Not to mention you find out that Tony Stark has a secret illuminati with Professor X, Dr. Strange, Reed Richards, Namor, and Black Bolt. This group has been running around, behind the scenes, making decisions they think will benefit the world, like sending the Hulk into space and attacking the Skrull home world. These two actions ended up having serious consequences. But not before the aftermath of the Scarlet Witch's breakdown in...
House of M. The story where Scarlet Witch is dragged down to super villain statues by her jerk of a brother, Quicksilver. In order to save his sister from the inevitable execution being planed by the new Avengers and X-men, he convinces Wanda to use her power to change the world into an ideal place for every one, human and mutant to live. When a group of people find out what's happened, they try to stop her. She gets so angry at them and her father that she changes reality one last time so that the mutant population is dwindled down to a mere 198 mutants.
This is one straw, on a pile of complaints geared toward the superhero community. But the one that breaks the camels back is the New Warriors fiasco. The group tracks down a bunch of super villains hiding from the law in a suburb. One of the villains goes nuclear and kills a whole bunch of people. Ground zero was a school, and the government decides to draft up the super hero registration act. It's a law that forces all super powered or costume cladded individuals to register their names and powers with the government, or they'll be arrested. Iron Man's for it. Cap's against it, and the Avengers split up again. Eventually Tony's side wins, but there are consequences. Steve Rogers is killed, Spider-man makes a deal with the devil and one of the most psychotic men on earth is put in charge of the thunderbolts division of the new 50 state initiative, Norman Osborn.
Eventually, the Hulk comes back for revenge against the "heroes" that jettisoned him into space. He doesn't win the fight, but he wins the argument. He proves he was never the monster, and people begin to doubt the 50 state initiative. There doubts are correct in that soon, it will be exploited by the skrulls in...
Secret invasion. The story where it all started to fall apart. The story where the skrulls, wanting revenge against the illuminati for their attack against them, infiltrate disguised as their friends, and attack the planet. Norman Osborn gets the kill shot on the skrull queen, who just happened to be posing as Spider-Woman for some really stupid reason, and the whole world celebrates a murderess psychopath, who just a year ago was caught on live tv running around killing people as the green goblin in broad daylight.
Norman uses his influence in Dark Rein to position all the bad guys in a place of power, as well as start his own cabal. Loki, a member of Norman's cabal, manipulates OSborn into attacking Asgard, and then is surprised when Asgard is nearly destroyed from the very attack he orchestrated. He uses the norn stones, or the power of friendship depending on the person's viewpoint, to help the heroes defending Asgard from Osborn. Loki's killed by Sentry (what?), and Sentry is killed by Thor (yay!). Steve Rogers, who is now alive apparently, takes Normans place as the new top cop. The registration act is thrown out the window, Avengers mansion is rebuilt, and everything, more or less goes back to the way things were before any of this started. The Avengers' big three reunite, Hulk is dumb again, no more registration act. Everything's commin' up roses. My question is a simple one.... What the f*** was the point of all this s***!?! (forgive the bold from here on in if it's there. This stupid comment box doesn't know how to turn it off when it goes past the f****** word.)
We see the Avengers destroyed, put back together, destroyed, put back together, destroyed and then, once again, put back together. FOR WHAT?!? The villains take over, then the world realizes that maybe that wasn't a good idea. GEE, YA' THINK!?!? Skrulls invade, fail miserably. WHY!?! It was a really stupid plan! That's why! Who cares if you impersonate Spider-Woman! No one gave a flyin' fig about Spider-Woman! Ha! see, the topic comes full circle. These stories, this entire run by Bendis and friends, is a lot like Bendis' dialogue. It speaks forever and says nothing. After the Avengers realize that they had it too easy, they go through a massive cluster-f*** , just to go back to the way things use to be? With no real resolution, no development of characters, and no confrontation on the matter? At all?!? THAT! That is your COP OUT.
Sure, Civil War had liberties debate, and Dark Reign was don't trust your leaders. But it looks pretty large scope nonsense in hindsight.
And to top it all off, what a crappy way to end it all. No reflection, just beat up the Void and the day is saved. No lessons learned and everyone is happy. Bah! I don't like it.
" @E.I.S.A.M.: Well, even more than that: What was the message? The moral? Sure, Civil War had liberties debate, and Dark Reign was don't trust your leaders. But it looks pretty large scope nonsense in hindsight. And to top it all off, what a crappy way to end it all. No reflection, just beat up the Void and the day is saved. No lessons learned and everyone is happy. Bah! I don't like it. "Exactly! Whatever message they had before has been thrown out the window in favor of what was written in What if...? Civil War. You can't trust the top cop, but since it's Captain America, you can! But wait, didn't half the marvel universe go to war with him when they disagreed with him on a government issue!?! Not just an argument... A WAR! Wouldn't that happen agai-- oh, wait, wait, it's Marvel. It doesn't have to make sense as long as it makes money.
