Hey! A cross-over event that continues to be awesome and doesn't fall apart halfway through. This is one action-packed issue that raises a ton of questions about what is really going on in this mini-series. Last issue, I raised the question, in my review, what if Ultimate Mysterio never existed and 616 Mysterio has been using avatars to commit crimes in the Ultimate Universe. This issue very obviously raises the question is 616 Peter Parker actually in the Ultimate Universe or is it all one of Mysterio's tricks? I love that this book has me thinking about a lot of "what if" scenarios. It's little things like that which keep me on the edge of my seat.
I really enjoyed seeing some of these other Ultimate characters jump into this issue: Nick Fury, the Ultimates, and some Spidey-villains. It makes this book feel a bit more real and that it's actually happening in this universe and not some separate entity.
I love the ending to this issue and Peter starts to come to grips with the world he's currently in. I don't want to give too much away, but it takes a turn from the main story and the focus shifts away from Miles and Mysterio. While the fight scenes are a ton of fun, I like seeing the other side of this story. Bendis can be hit or miss with me, depending on who he's writing, but I think he does a stellar job with these characters and this overall mini-series so far.
I have nothing but good things to say about Sara Pichelli's art on this issue. It's wonderful, and I love her fight scenes in this issue. One of the moments I liked the most is seeing Doc Ock have his metal tentacles wrapped around Peter. It looked extremely cool, and it's little things like that which get me excited about an overall book.
It feels like the story is a tad rushed overall. We only have two issues left and there's no real leads on what is actually happening to Peter.
This has been one of my favorite cross-over books in years, and it keeps me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I love the fact this book raises a lot of questions with what's really going on in this event. It feels like there's a lot of possibilities here, and it creates conversation between fans. Bendis and Pichelli are great on this book, and I couldn't think of a better creative team for this story. The only downside is that I feel is may be a bit rushed since there are only two issues left and we have no leads on what's going on, but at the same time, I wouldn't want something like this to drag on like every other Marvel event.
Overall, I highly recommend this issue and series. It is so awesome.
