Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.
I think that the Green Goblin is overrated. I can understand why he is the big one but he is usually portayed either goofy-looking or as a robot. He is very seldomly done right, when he is he is great, but that is hardly ever.
Someone who is underrated is the Rhino. I think he has a cool motif and has all that strength. I understand he is supposed to be a little dumb, but everyone makes him look like a (really) big idiot who is defeated by running himself into a wall or an electric something-or-another. http://goo.gl/UF3TDC | http://goo.gl/LYLHhG
Carnage is my favorite, because he represents Spider-Man's worst fear --- pure anarchy. Hobgoblin is under-rated, because we should celebrate more his malice symbolism. Gray Goblin should be used more, because he represents mayhem.
Favorite-Eddie Brock Venom. He was the anti-SpiderMan. He can counter the Spider sense, and he is stronger, faster, and more durable. He had a great backstory as the vengeful, jealous villain. He really hated Parker.
Most underrated-Sandman- He is an earth elemental who can shapeshift and grow in mass/strength. He is almost impossible to destroy also. Dude is a monster.
Need to see more of- The Lizard- Curt Connors has a rich history with Peter Parker. His speed/strength combo plus his healing factor, plus his tail strikes make him a pitbull in h2h. He is underused and underrated.
See more of - Kingpin. I know he's commonly seen as a Daredevil villain, but I think with the Parker Industries storyline there is potential for some great stories involving something like Fisk becoming the majority share holder that can lead to interesting high stakes action while still maintaining a sort of 'street level' feel that has been commonplace for Spidey for many years
