Now that we know who’s playing Spidey and Gwen Stacy in the reboot movie, where’s the casting race for J. Jonah Jameson?!?!?

What’s Playing’s Hollywood Insider has a reporter that Marc Webb is meeting with actors right now for a role in a project with the catchy code name “Untitled Teen Action Adventure Movie.” Supposedly, the names coming up so far are John Slattery (who you might know as Howard Stark) and Sam Elliot (who you might know as Gen. Thunderbolt Ross or Ghost Rider’s old west mentor.)   Given their previous roles, I guess that means there’s such a thing as typecasting for supporting roles in Marvel movies?

Actually, it invites the question of why Ross and Jameson have never teamed-up in the comics. Either as a mayor or a gamma-charged monster, they’ve both moved up into bigger, more colorful roles lately. I’m sure JJJ would have the same double-standards about Red Hulknot being a menace because he’s a G.I. too.

You know, J.K. Simmons was so pitch perfect as JJJ, I wonder why they don’t just bring him back. If Judi Dench can keep playing M even when BOND goes back to square one, I don’t see why he can’t. It’s not like it’s going to draw any viewers out of the experience.   == TEASER ==

Still, part of the fun of following announcements like this to debate who you’d think would be best for the role. This H-Wood Insider is pulling for Stephen “the bad guy in AVATAR” Lang, but what about you Comic Vine maniacs? Who do you picture playing Peter Parker's world-class pain-in-the-butt boss?

No one will ever play JJJ as good as J.K. Simmons. I though he looked and acted exactly like him in the Spider-Man movies. I hope he gets the role again.

J.K. Simmons, even though I'm sure they are going to try someone new.

I can't and don't want to see anyone else as JJJ. He was absolutely perfect in the role.

Stephen Lang was a great villain because he exuded competence. But J. Jonah Jameson is predominantly a farcical character and should be cast as such.

Why cast someone new? The new Bond/ 007 movies kept Judi Dench as M.

J.K. Simmons played the role terrifcially. I think he should be in the reboot of Spider-Man as Jameson. 

I can't see anyone but J.K. Simmons playing the role, he's like what Mark Hamill is to the Joker

Actually on the whole 007 thing, the reason Dench can continue to play M with the change in Bonds is because "James Bond" is a code name. Different agent, same codename, same boss

It's like getting someone else to play Xavier after Patrick Stewart, it's just not the same. Damn J.K. and Patrick for being so damn perfect in their roles!

J.K. Simmons was born to play that Roll as Patrick Stewart  was Born to playProfessor X, and 

Wesley Snipes was to play Blade.    

JK Simmons was one of those rare occasions where Hollywodd nail a casting, absolutely perfectly. In my mind, only Patrick Stewart, and Michael Cain are on par with the genius of casting as JK was. Everything, from the voice, look and tone was superb. Bring him back

its gotta be J.k. Simmons. Don't mess with perfection.

The last guy was perfect. Losing him is my major issue with rebooting the series. It's like when we lost Alfred from the old Batman movies :(

It's definitely going to be a hard act to follow Simmons, he was absolutely spot on in my view.

They would be stupid not to gift wrap the role and deliver it to J.K. Simmons. The ComicVine community obviously loves him and I'm pretty sure we know what's best :)

J.K simmons is the best actor of the spider-man movie franchise, only defoe is second to him

If they had to keep one thing from past Spider-man movies...JJJ would be it!

J.K. Simmons was perfect as JJJ. He was the only good casting decision they made in those films. Actually, I take that back, the guy who played Sandman was perfect too.
