Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.
@deaditegonzo: If we're talking about Eddie Brock, then I 100% agree that he's more than that. :) He made quite a name for himself as an anti-hero too. @safefruitcake I get that. I've always been more of a Goblin fan myself (partly because I have a strange obsession with characters that throw stuff), but it's always been a toss-up for me between him and Ock. Again, Venom is right up there, but I always preferred his solo stuff.
