It seems some people are digging the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series while others have expressed some disinterest. It looks like the show has been successful as a second season is heading our way.

Marvel has announced a one-hour primetime premiere on Monday, January 21, 2013, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. ET/PT.

During the premiere, we will be introduced to two of Spider-Man's villains - the Lizard (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker of Disney's Phineas and Ferb) and Electro. As Spider-Man and his team - Nova, White Tiger, Iron Fist and Power Man - fight the villains, it turns out a "sinister force" will be secretly assembling to plan their defeat.

While the second season will follow the young heroes, sounds like they'll be having some interaction with the stars of the upcoming animated series Avengers Assemble (Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk and Hawkeye). They'll also face the Sinister Six with Kraven the Hunter, Rhino, Lizard, Electro, Beetle and a secret sixth member. They'll also face the return of Loki (who turned Spider-Man into Spider-HAM last time).

Cool, can't wait!

Maybe they can actually improve the series, cause I still believe it has potential. But if they pull some "Superior Spider-Man" schtick, I'll be pissed.

I gave this show an honest shot last week since it's on Netflix. While I don't think it's as atrocious as many people say, I can't say I'm exactly a fan either.
That said, I'm always a sucker for a Sinister Six episode.  Hopefully I'll enjoy that one.

I haven't seen this show

This show is great but would be a lot better without a "teenage hero team". Spider-Man is like Batman, a loner, not a leader and works better alone.

I have no problems with that show. It is good for what it is, and who it is marketed towards. Having said that, I cannot wait. They need an episode focusing on Ava.

The fact that this is the last place we can see Peter Parker now is a huge slap to the face...

Please, if anything they'll do Miles, not Superior. Miles did already have a cameo in the musical episode.

and this is why DC is beating Marvel in the Animation department

for once I think this is a have a better chance with miles morales than peter.

So they'll be fighting both Mark Webb villains? Cool.

I don't care if everyone hates that show, I like it and I've only seen, like, 2 episodes. (My TV doesn't get Disney XD) The web animation alone is awesome.

Suddenly, I really, REALLY can't take this show seriously anymore...

It pains me that this show is already gotten more episodes than Spectacular Spider-Man. You know, a GOOD spider-Man show.

This show can't be called a Spider-Man show. It's an Avengers promotion with Spider-Man elements. Even worst, they only use the big six as guest stars (Hulk, Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Wolverine *Spider-Man is six, but you get the idea*).

God, I just wished they did something new instead of harping on the Avengers movie franchise.

And would it kill them to acknowledge that Wolverine isn't the only X-Men in existence?

I feel like I'm constantly being insulted by Marvel

Just bring back Spectacular Spider-Man and i will that this never even happened

Oh great more A lister superheroes who saw that coming, its not like Marvel has intersting and obsucre characters that havn't been to the television screen for decades to none at all. Also god forbid MArvel actually used teenage superheroes such as runaways, young avengers , avengers academy, amandeous cho, instead of getting adult heroes and make them teenagers. If thats not bad enough they could use thier tragic pasts and make them grow as a team but just made them as steorotypes

You know something? I had heard this show was to be similar to Batman: The Brave and The Bold in that Spider-Man would be teaming up with various heroes every episode in a light hearted manner. I was looking forward to that. I even DEFENDED it before it came out and said it could be just as good as Spectacular Spider-Man.

Well look how well that turned out!!! I won't deny, Drake Bell does a DECENT Spider-Man and Spidey himself is pretty much himself, the show fails on the comedy and plays havoc with what universe it's supposed to be set in!!!

Is it the Ultimate Universe? Is it the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Is it a fusion of these two plus the mainstream Marvel U? I SURE AS HELL DON'T KNOW!!!

And that brings me to another thing. Luke Cage and Danny Rand as teenagers and ROOKIES at that is just hurtful to me. The new Nova? I won't judge since a character of the same name will be replacing Richard Rider as Nova in the comics, but he's not AS annoying as I thought he would be. Though I do appreciate them adding White Tiger in. She's a character that, while I haven't read much of, I think deserves a little better treatment,

The thing that hurts the most about this show is that we had to lose one of the best Spider-Man shows we've ever had just so this cheap imitation could air.

where spectacular spider man...

That show's still on air? Will they please cancel it?

Honestly the show's not as bad as most say, personally I like the idea of Spider-Man being trained by S.H.I.E.L.D. as it's something new not to mention makes sense that Nick Fury would see the potential in Spidey and want him trained to be the best he can be. While I'm not the biggest fan of his team of superheroes (maybe except for Nova, I like Nova) I don't really mind it as much as it's giving lesser known characters some spotlight (which I'm always glad when Marvel does that).
Probably the biggest issue with the series is the whole breaking of the fourth wall every five seconds. Most of the stuff Spider-Man stops the whole show to tell the audience could easily be explained through simply narration and still get the point across. Along with that, I feel that it takes away from the storyline as it destroyed any serious moment when a goofy cartoony version of Spider-Man pops up on screen doing some silly way to explain what's going on with such-and-such scene or who so-and-so villain is. Though I won't like, there are a few times those scenes get a chuckle out of me, but it's like once per-episode but it's the fifteen other scenes that messes the whole show up.
I do believe that this series could be better if they would simply do away with the silly/childish fourth-wall breaking, give more on classic Spider-Man villains, and most of all focus on actual character development that makes us care about these characters. We also need more serious storylines, not dark and gritty just something that makes fans go "dude, that was awesome!" Which was something that made Spectacular Spider-Man such a great series, as it had many serious moments that made you fear and care for the characters on screen.

I tried watching the first few episodes, but I felt it was too childish for my tastes. One of the biggest problems these kind of cartoons have is they never reflect the mood or events of the comics they're based upon.

If you don't want people to think comics are just for kids, then don't make cartoons based on them so childish. The cartoons are reaching a wider audience.

Nice. Hopefully this Spider-Man series actually continues without cancellation, unlike all the previous popular Spider-Man tv shows (i.e. Spider-Man the Animated Series, Spider-Man unlimited, Spider-Man MTV, and Spectacular Spider-Man).

Good, I'll spend all of January banging my head into hard objects in home of developing enough brain damage to fit into the shows apparent target audience

#38 Posted by darkwingdan (211 posts) - - Show Bio

I finally finished watching season one on Netflix... and then I immediately went back and watched the '90s cartoon to make myself feel better about Spidey.

#39 Posted by MyFavoriteViltrumite23 (264 posts) - - Show Bio

@darkwingdan: you should try spectacular, despite its artwork its a pretty solid spiderman series

#40 Posted by MatKrenz (1516 posts) - - Show Bio

Here's my biggest thing with the series. So Peter says a bunch of times he doesn't want to be in a team, he prefers working alone. Hell his deal with Fury is that he can work alone but nope he has to deal with a team that knows everything about his personal life but he knows nothing about them. I mean really we don't know about their personal lives or anything and Peter has to trust them ?

Also a bunch of other stuff but yeah this show should just be canned, it's just bad.

Alright honestly, this show might be far too childish at times but I do find myself actually laughing the majority of the time. So, I'm glad that at least Marvel is trying to keep this alive.
