Let's face it, Kevin Conroy IS Batman. When I think Batman, or am reading a Batman comic, it's his voice I hear, thankfully not Christian Bale's. But it got me thinking, who do you, the Comicvine community, consider to be the definitive voice of Spider-Man? When you read Spider-Man, whose voice do you hear?
I would say Josh Keaton from Spectacular Spider-Man and Paul Soles from the '60s cartoon rank among my favorites. I really loved the recent Shattered Dimensions game, because we got the best of 4 different worlds; literally!
What sayest you guys n' gals?
Spider-Man
Character » Spider-Man appears in 17246 issues.
Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.
The Definitive Spider-Man Voice?
It must be the reason they gave him the job to voice Spider-Man again in Marvel vs Capcom 3. Oh and I heard he tried out for the role of Spidey in the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon. Keep your fingers crossed.
I became intrigued when I heard Joe Kelly and Paul Dini were involved, as well as potentially getting Keaton back. But I agree, this show will have HUGE shoes to fill in order to be better than TSSM. I probably will go in with huge expectations, be very let down and stop watching after the pilot episode.
You know which voice I liked? The one he had in that game Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. That game was terrible, but I thought Spider-Man's voice was dead on.
@zombietag: CDB didn't do a bad job; he really gave the voice a more dramitc flare than the others, I think. Plus he was talented enough to play all the Spider-Men in the series finale, including Spider-Carnage and Ben Reilly.
And Toby was ok, but for me, he would have a hard time voicing the wall-crawler's jokes in my head if I was reading Spider-Man in a comic do so. He never seemed as confident during the rare moments when he did joke, for, when Peter is in his Spider-Man costume, he is very confident and such.
@Gambit1024: I'm going to have to go back and hear that voice again. Been ages since I touched that game.
I think the honor of worst Spider-Man voice may go to whoever voiced him in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I hear it was bad in Web of Shadows, but I never bought that game.
Either Josh Keaton or Neil Patrick Harris. I liked him as Amazing Spider-Man in SD. Keaton is the best though.

Gotta agree with this statement about UA2. I hated that game. Liked WoS though. Not many people do, but I liked destroying everything in the Symbiote suit.
I may pick up WoS eventually when it gets a lil cheaper; I'd hate to blow a lot of dough on a game if I end up not liking it. That, and after I get my 360 cured of the dread Red Ring of Death!
" Josh Keaton from TSSM - no question about it in my book. "He was really great. I still think Chris Barnes is a pretty definitive Spidey, though.
@DarkSpidey21: Wow, excellent deal your dad got there! And back to your earlier comment, fro what I got to play, Neil PH did a good job on Spidey; I liked him better than his last go at him in the MTV show.
CDB definitely has one of the widest ranges of voices. In addition to his '90s Spider-Men voices, he was able to create yet another different voice for Shattered Dimensions. His best line(s) form the '90s show, though? "MARY JANE!!!!!" ;)

WoS has to be dirt cheap by now. Its over two years old already.
Say, you're right. I may just have to browse through Gamestop next time I visit the mall. Hard to belive it's been that long.

I forgot he did that show. Hated that show, with a passion.
Not as bad as Spider-Man Unlimited, but a step above that. Speaking of which, I think Rino Romano did a good job voicing Spider-Man on SMU and the 1st 2 Playstation games. I LOVE those games.
A lot of people overlook Neil Patrick Harris, but I think he portrays a damn near perfect adult Peter. Josh Keaton is King if you want a younger, less experienced Pete though. Chris Barnes has a great handle on the darker aspects of Spidey's character (Black Suit stories, etc) but they just don't come around enough for him to be the best, imo.

Some of the best games. I still have Rise of Electro. SMU was pretty bad. Not gonna lie, I actually watch it, even to this day. Still bad though.
@DarkSpidey21: I won't lie, even I give it a watch when I see SMU on Disney XD; especially if I'm feeling nostalgic or killing time. I just wish they had made a proper series finale.
@Dracade102: Then you're gonna love Marvel vs Capcom 3!
Here's a whole page of all of Spidey's voice actors and compare them :)

@The Hobgoblin:
MvC2 is one of my top three games of all time. Probably gonna get bumped out by MvC3. That game looks sick.
It does look pretty cool, even if I am slightly disappointed by the Marvel roster (See my previous blog for more thoughts on that).
" A lot of people overlook Neil Patrick Harris, but I think he's portrays a damn near perfect adult Peter. Josh Keaton is King if you want a younger, less experienced Pete though.
You read my mind
"@Prims777: Prince Eric from the Little Mermaid?! Get outta here! ;) "
LMFAO!!! I forgot about that too.
"@DarkSpidey21: Wasn't he one of the Bready Bunch kids, too? "
I really don't remember. For the sake of his rep; I hope not.
Josh Keaton with Chris Barnes in second. at least until im finished creating my clone hybrid with keatons talent for smartass and barnes dramatic flair
i couldnt stand NPH's Spidey though. Rino was pretty good though same with Dan
@The Hobgoblin:
that one was good but for me it will always be: "you'll pay for this Osborn, If i have to chase you forever......YOU'LL PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have a point there. That quote does send chills up one's spine. Plus you had Neil Ross wonderfully playing both Osborn and Green Goblin and playing off what CDB said.
Yes, he was." @DarkSpidey21: Wasn't he one of the Bready Bunch kids, too? "
I barely recognize his voice here in this video. And you say he was in The Little Mermaid? Well, gotta hunt that down someday, then.
CDB will always be the Spider-Man for me. Josh Keaton's kiddish voice? Get outta here. Peter have to get married someday, you know? And get a miscarriage. And sell his marriage. And go back in time or something. Hm.
"It's the Spider-Man justice system! Guilty until proven innocent."
"You want trial and separation already? I understand but... I'm hurt."
"(to Kraven) Don't tell me, you're a Leo, right?"
"Congratulations, you can count! And they say the school system's failing."
"You don't find the Fantastic Four in the sewer. Or The Avengers. Or The Defenders. Well, maybe The Hulk."
And this is the one quote that makes him a definite Spidey for me:
"Yeah, okay, bye bye. Yeah, what a beautiful, happy ending. I feel like I'm trapped in a Daniel Steele novel. Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't the hero suppose to be get the girl? Never again do I get in the middle of a lover's spat. Stick a fork in me. I'm done."
For me Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions just provided who I believe should voice the wall-crawler. Josh Keaton will be the definative Spider-Man/Peter Parker for me. Dan Galverzan will always be Spider-Man 2099 and Christopher Daniel Barnes will be Spider-Man Noir. Neil Patrick Harris... well he sounds like a more mature version of Josh Keaton so maybe MC2 Peter Parker.
Christopher Barnes' original run in the SMAS was ok, but sounded a little too, for lack of a better word, "Heroic" for Spidey, like he was trying to be Superman instead of Spider-Man. That problem was fixed when he did the darker Spidey Noir. His "darker and edgier" take eliminated my one and only problem with his Spidey. Dan Galverzan, just sounds awsome and what's more awsome then a cyber punk Spider-Man who is the "Chosen One"?
Like I said, Josh and Neil sound very similar but, Josh will always be my difinative Spidey (High School Stan Lee/Ditko/Romita Sr./Bendis-Adult JMS/Peter David/Romita Jr.-Whenever Spidey retires though by the middle part of the Adult bit its more like Josh Keaton doing a Neil Harris impersination). Keaton just really sticks the loud, fast "I'll mock you until you burst a blood vein" joker Spidey, but really sticks the emotional quiet "My life may suck but this is my responsibility" deep Spidey. Neil sounds like a much more mature version of Keaton's voice catching the deep Spidey but being closer to the deadpan snarker Spidey then the fast pace joker, the only reason Keaton really beats Harris here. As such I find it appropriate that he voices Peter Parker from Spider-Girl (which is canon where as I'm conserned).
I also like the Tobey Spidey, the Rino Spidey and the WoS Spidey. The only one I don't really like is the MUA2 one. However the Shattered Dimensions Spideys will be my difinative Main Spidey (Keaton), MC2 Spidey (Harris), 2099 (Galverzan) and Noir (Barnes).
