Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.
I liked it. It's no Kraven's Last Hunt and it's no Dark Knight Returns, but if you like the idea of those types of stories, it's an enjoyable read. I'd argue it's more uplifting than either of those story lines, however, as while it deals with the same themes (impotence in the face of aging and death) it's still at its core a Spider-Man story and Spider-Man is an optimist at heart.
I love Spider-Man Reign, it's a good read, nice apocolpictic world, where Spidey has given up, because of a certain thing that happened he blames himself for. I would recommend it to anyone. Also, don't get the story about his daughter. They started out Grim Hunt well, but bringing Kraven back made me sad, since Kraven's Last Hunt is a masterpiece in my opinion.
