In an attempt to edge the audience with more clever antics from real world trends. Sorta like Deadpool without the total vulgar execution. Ultimate Spiderman(cartoon) is doing this in it's own way.

If there is one way to distance me its with pop culture references. Its a sure fire way to make anything dated. Go back and watch an SNL episode from just 6 or 7 years ago and you'll hear plenty of jokes about SARS and Myspace and laugh for the wrong reasons. It just makes things more disposable in an already fast food like culture.
