He's swinging into your living room!
He's swinging into your living room!

Something that might’ve sneaked under people’s notice like a daddy long legs creeping underneath a door frame (?!?!) was the rather exciting announcements about Paul Dini and Man of Action joining the staff of the new wall-crawler ‘toon, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN.   Man of Action, of course, is the creative enclave that includes Duncan Rouleau, Joe Kelly, Steve Seagle and Joe Casey.  They’ve got far too many credits between the four of them to list, but the most relevant to mention, here, is that they created Cartoon Network’s BEN 10 and GENERATOR REX. Dini’s pretty-much responsible for a huge a chunk of DC’s animated universe, but this’ll be the first time he’s involved in something Marvel related. Other big names involved in this are Brian Bendis, whose ULT. SPIDEY run’s serving as a basis for the show, and Jeph Loeb, who’s supervising Marvel’s TV division these days. I really can’t think of any other TV show that’s had this much comics talent involved in it, so I’d say it’s a safe bet that this is going to be true to the source material. == TEASER ==

Anyway, this news comes from Splash Page, who posted an interview with Dini along with these announcements. In that he interview, he sets the record straight on these issues relating to the toon…

    • The series content will evenly split between Bendis’ ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN and new content the team’s creared for the show.
    • Team-ups with other Marvel characters are among some of the things that’ll set this apart from the last toon, SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN.
    • Dini really isn’t looking to do direct adaptations of the classic Spidey stories like the death of Gwen Stacy.
    • There are obviously plenty of differences between Spidey and Batman and Dini’s keen on taking this new challenge of depicting a more kinetic, improvisational and unsure superhero.

Anyway, this show’s coming to Disney XD next year. Are you Comic Vine maniacs excited about this show, or would you prefer to still have SPECTACULAR?

Yep, same. I loved SpecSpi and was very disappointed that they cancelled it. Still, I can never say no to a Spidey animated series.

Both Weisman and Dini are great names to be attached to any animated project...if either of them is working on a cartoon then there's a really strong chance that the show is going to be amazing...if we can't have one then I'm happy with the other

I'm of the same mind. I was kind-of hit and miss on the show up until this point, and I kind of dislike the ultimate universe, so my hopes weren't high. I hope, however that the "Team-ups" are something that happens maybe every other episode, or, preferably once every three or so episodes, and it doesn't get bogged down in team ups.

Man of Action's on this? I'm cool with that right there. Didn't see much of Spectacular Spider-man because I don't have Disney XD, but from what I did see of it, it was pretty cool. I trust this'll be just as good.

If only Dini could bring Bruce Timm along with him. Those two got everything right with DC. Although, if they follow Mark Bagley's style to keep with the comics, that's probably a better idea.

It is strange to see Dini write Ultimate Spider-Man. I mean if I read that book I would expect a guy to start laughing maniacally and hear the laughter of the Joker in my head. But it'll be interesting to see what direction he'll take Ultimate Spider-Man in.

    @doordoor123:
my thoughts exactly, but the best touch would be casting director in Andrea Romano.  With her getting real actors as apposed to over-acting voice over actors makes a bad episode watchable.  I hate mare animation because its so damn cheesy sometimes.

I just want to see an ending to The Spectacular Spider-Man.  I don't want to see a new Spidey cartoon until they finish The Spectacular Spider-Man.  Oh well, the whole world could probably ask for the show to be brought back for one more season or it to become a comic book series, and they still wouldn't do anything with it.  I really hope this new show bombs so I can relish in the fact they got rid of such a great show and got nothing out of it.

Spectacular Spider-Man was an amazing TV show because it was able to include all the best characteristics of the Spider-Man comic into a continuity that although didn't follow the Spider-Man continuity it did make sense...
Ultimate Spider-Man is going to differ from the Ultimate storyline... which in turn will mean angry fans of the original series, since they will have something to compare it to...

Honestly I am not all that crazy that Nova will appear since Nova just appeared for the first time in UCSP... but I am excited for this show... i just think calling it Ultimate Spider-Man was not the best idea since it won't follow Bendis' series

No offence, but that's pretty petty. Especially since the people working on this show have nothing to do with Spectacular ending. You're blaming the wrong people.

Spectacular ended simply because of legal reasons, not because someone wanted to end it. It was sony produced show and they gave up the rights because they wanted to keep the movie rights.

i'm looking forward to it a lot more since it'll be based off of the comics, contrary to the trailer which showed spidey turning into a toaster and spidey on some motorcycle thing.
still wish they would've had josh keaton as spider-man though
never been too big of a fan of team ups and crossovers and all that shiat, spidey is more of a loner.  i'd rather them just bring in a few recurring characters to help him out from time to time
