I want to read the entire run from the beginning to current events but obviously I can't just go buy every single issue. I know there is the Amazing Spider-Man Annual which is unfortunately black and white, so with the Annual and several of the series's being given paperback editions, is there at least one re-print of every issue in those paper back graphic novel collections? If not, can we beg for them from Marvel?
Spider-Man
Character » Spider-Man appears in 17246 issues.
Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.
Is it possible to read the entire Amazing Spider-Man run?
You would spend easily over $1,000 (easily) to read this entire run?
And this number only comes from the ridiculous cheap prices they sell old issues at my local swap meet. You can find things for 50 cents to 75 cents.
In this economy...I would suggest rethinking this.
But who knows somebody here might have a better route you can take in order to achieve this goal.
@KainScion: Well I do have alot of time. But yeah I just wish there were easier ways to access it. They should really think of reprinting the entire run in the paperbacks .Would sell like crazy
They actually did that for a bit in Marvel Tales ft Classic Spider-Man.@KainScion: Well I do have alot of time. But yeah I just wish there were easier ways to access it. They should really think of reprinting the entire run in the paperbacks .Would sell like crazy
@Thespiderandtheredhead: It can be done fairly cheap if you don't mind digital. Amazon has a pdf dvd archive that has all of Spideys appearances up to issue 531 that you can buy used for 99.00. http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Spider-Man-Complete-Comic-Collection/dp/B000HKIM7Q You can pick up from there on Marvel's digital archive (it goes back at least to issue 500), it's a $60 yearly subscription service.

Sure.
Statistically unlikely but sure.
How is it unlikely?

600+ issues would cost a lot, and I doubt he's willing to pay as much as it costs. A lot probably didn't make it to tpb so you'd have to hunt it down
Maybe I should change my wording
"It would be difficult and costly"

He could buy the trades and if he's missing some issues then buy them from MCS, amazon, ebay or some other site.
Should cost about $1000-2000.

That has issues 1-500 on one DVD. Anything after 500 should be fairly easy to track down for relatively cheap. The only real problem with the disk is that for cross-over stories it only includes the part of the cross-over that was printed in Amazing Spider-Man, so you'll have to track down the issues they cross with as well.
Definitely possible. I've been giving this my best shot since I was about 16. I'm 22 now, and I'm on issue 365 on Amazing. (300th anniversary issue). It started off really well with just one issue a month, but now there's Spider-Man, Spectacular Spider-Man and Web of Spider-Man all running simultaneously it's a nightmare to keep it going. Some stories cross over, some don't. Little bit of a pain in the ass.
I started this thread a while ago to outline what I was doing - obviously it was really popular... From the very beginning...
You could also buy "The Amazing Spider-Man - The Complete Collection" on DVD-ROM by Gitcorp.
It includes every issue through to June 2006 and every Annual as PDF files.
These were priced at $40 when initially released, but you can still find them usually on eBay costing anywhere from $100 - $300. I find it a great resource if you don't want to physically pull comics out of your collection and especially when viewing it on a large monitor.

The DVD-ROM currently going for $99 on eBay is pretty good value considering you get 560 complete printable comics, that's every issue of ASM through to June 2006. ?

Damn, really? I might actually pick that up. How long would it take to get through it?
Lol, don't know man, depends on how much spare time you got and how fast you read.
I've been buying and reading ASM since I was kid in the mid 70's, so my physical collection is almost complete, but my kids love viewing the DVD-ROM on a large monitor. It makes it a lot easier for them to read especially my daughter who will read at least a couple of issues every weekend.
Well, in order to do so, you will have to read (excluding specials):
- Amazin Fantansy #15
- The Amazing Spider-Man vol.1 #1–441
- The Amazing Spider-Man vol.2 #1–58
- The Amazing Spider-Man vol.1 #500-700
- The Amazing Spider-Man vol. 3 #1-20
- The Amazing Spider-Man vol. 4 #1-24
This makes 744 issues to read to far.
If you consider that arcs/stories are in average 6 issues and that you read 1 arc/story per week, it would take around 2.5 years to read all.
Even faster if you read one issue per day, and around 1.5 years if you read 2 issues a day.
@jb681131: What do you mean by Vol 2 #1-58? I'm reading ASM from the start and am on #143 at the moment, but I know it goes all the way to 700 issues, is the volume 2 you mention a side series or something?
@primeearth2016: Volume 2 became integrated into Volume 1.
The issues were later each renumbered to #442-#499.
@jb681131:You can do it a lot faster than that.
I read all of USM, including the tie-ins and Ultimatum which totals ~180/190 issues, in about a week and a half.
@izamanaick: Oh okay thanks for clearing that up. Also your reading speed is impressive, I just read ASM on and off, some days I read a bunch of issues then sometimes I wont read any for a week, I love it but I'm lazy, at this rate it will take forever for me to read it all, but I'm in no rush.
