Is Huberto Ramos a influental artist?

#1 Posted by Minerboh (7 posts) - 6 months, 22 days ago - Show Bio

Hello! I am new to this board and pretty much happy about it!

I had a heated arguement with Wacker in an another forum regarding the artist in ASM 700, Huberto Ramos! He said that he's an influental artist but personally, i do not like his art that much. Iwould have prefered someone else for this project. Am i wrong that i d not reckonize Ramos as an influental artist? Please state your opinions freely!

Well the thing is we all have different tastes. I prefer Stegman's art too Caselli's doesn't mean i'm right though its just my personal taste. There is no right or wrong answer to this question. For example I personally find most of Picaso's work pretty damn awful but it doesn't change the fact that he was an influential artist but being influential also depends on the amount of people who like it and seek to take inspiration from it.

So there really is no right or wrong answer to this.

Jack Kirby, Joe Kubert, Neal Adams, Gene Colan, Alan Davis, George Perez, Alex Ross, Jim Lee, and many others.

Those people were (and are) influential. I don't see how Ramos is at the same level as any of them.

No.

What?

No.

Seriously?

No.

Good and influential are two different things.

@SmashBrawler: Adams and Davis's art are disgusting

@Jonny_Anonymous: Maybe, but a lot of people would disagree (myself included).

Yeah and I don't know why lol. Caselli's art is so smooth, fluid and awesome but for some reason I really really like Stegman's style and I don't even know why. There's just something about it.

There's no right answer but in my opinion I really don't like Ramos' art. I cringe every time I see his name on the cover. His style is sketchy and he can't draw faces at all.

@Strider92: Haha, I'm just messing. I love both artists although I find Caselli to be the most influential modern Spider-Man artist, Stegman is right behind him. Both are magnificent artists and have illustrated some of the best Spider stories.

@Deranged Midget: Yeah Caselli's art is great. Camuncoli's art is pretty great too. I have a slight issue with how he draws Pete's face but his fight sequence's and how he draws masked characters and anatomy is awesome. Pretty stoked that both Stegman and Camuncoli are going to be on Superior Spider-man. Just need Caselli for the ultimate drawing team. Pity the Avengers got him *shakes fist*

I really like Ramos' style, I think it fits Spider-Man really well but I can understand why people might not like it. Love Caselli's, he is one of my favourites artist. Can somone post some Stegman art because I can't remember his style at all.

@Strider92: Yeah, that's probably the only thing that depressed me about the news. Ramos' art is fun and everything but for people to consider him to be a superior(no pun intended) artist to Caselli is just a little crazy. Oddly enough, I really love the way Comuncoli draws Peter. Sometimes, it looks odd but there are the moments where I just adore it.

Heres some of his Scarlet Spider stuff:

@Deranged Midget: Yeah i'm glad they kept him on. I especially love how Camuncoli draws the Hobgoblins at the moment!

I don't think this is about whether you like his art or not. I think what's being left out is what "influential" means. Humberto Ramos gets work, but who is following his lead?

The last few Spider-man artist's have been really good.

@Billy Batson: Don't worry the grammatical errors have been fixed.

This. People should forget about their hate and love for Ramos. His art was really fresh when he started at drawing Spider-Man 10 years ago. The same way

Todd McFarlane and Erik Larsen was it about 25 years. Between these years was a more normal style and not so edgy/weird. This even includes a star artist like JR JR.

I could be wrong, but Ramos (together with several other -Cliffhanger- artists like Madureira, Bachalo, ...) could be considered influential for introducing the more manga-esque stylistic drawingstyling into US comics. I don't think it was commonly done before than.

Anyway, I love his art. But I agree that his art is really love it or hate it.

This. Been liking Ramos since Crimson and just read his issues of the Spider Man End of the World arc and I still love it.

Sidenote: Casselli is awesome
