I think most people agree that Norman Osborn is Spiderman's arch-nemesis, but while Osborn is well known as a criminal mastermind and frequent head of various supervillain groups, his alter ego the Green Goblin just doesn't seem like that much of a threat to me. Sure, he has his pumpkin bombs, his glider, superhuman strength on par with Spiderman and a somewhat durable suit, but if he faced say Iron Man in combat, I feel like it would be an effortless win for Iron Man. Same can be said if he faced Venom, Electro or many other Spiderman villains whom he has still bossed over as the leader of the Sinister Six and Sinister Twelve. After all, Norman should possess quite potent technology considering that his company OsCorp used to be a competitor to Stark Industries, which has developed new tech in forcefields, plasma cannons and other advanced weaponry, yet I've never seen Green Goblin use anything as sophisticated as force fields or most of the equipment Iron Man uses. Does Green Goblin possess technology that makes him able to challenge technological powerhouses like Iron Man and most superhumans? If the authorities sends the military after him, does he have any defence against missiles, electrical attacks, or even gunfire? Or does Norman mostly rely on hostages or other malicious plans instead of direct combat with powerful opponents? Also, if Green Goblin doesn't possess such technology, would you like to see him have it in future screen adaptions or do you prefer Green Goblin with somewhat less sophisticated Halloween-based technology?
Spider-Man
Character » Spider-Man appears in 17242 issues.
Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider as a teenager, granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle Ben, Peter learned that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Swearing to always protect the innocent from harm, Peter Parker became Spider-Man.
How much of a threat is the Green Goblin, really?
The Green Goblin's main powers aren't in his physical abilities sure they're pretty good 9tons of strength, enhanced speed and reflexes etc....
His best ability is his mind. The guy is a ruthless psychopath who is highly unpredictable, manipualtive and is pretty damn smart to boot. He managed to take over S.H.I.E.L.D, hack Iron Man's armor, create multiple high power weapons etc.... So no while his stats aren't great compared with say Iron Man the thing that makes him so dangerous is his ability to manipulate people and his unpredictable plans/prep.
If you needed anymore proof Captain America considered him such a threat he had all the New Avengers sent to guard him including a few of the Avengers during his transport and guess what? He still broke out!

This, basically.

He is pretty much like Batman's Joker.
the true danger is his psychotic actions and out of the box thinking. You can't stop a villain if you have no idea what their next move is. Power-sets don't factor in as much as the external factors. Otherwise Spider-man would be constantly dwarfed by some of the heroes with godlike power or tech. It's a characters ingenuity and imagination that raises the greatest threat once you get to that level
the Green Goblin is a threat, because he can mess with your mind, and you really never know what he's gonna do next. Plus, he's the villain who killed Gwen Stacy, Peter's first love, so that makes Peter so mad he has thought about just straight up killing him, which is not his way, so you know he means buisness.
Batman run around fighting people physically stronger than the Joker, but when it comes time to kill the 2nd boy wonder- who do they get? The same with the Green Goblin. He isn't a guy that just wants to rob a bank, he wants to psychologically torture our hero, and he is the best in the world at it. Although I have to think aunt May causes Peter more pain and misery than the sinister 6.
Norman Osborn>Green Goblin. That is an established fact.
Spider-Man has already proven numerous times that in a real fight, the Green Goblin is no match for him. Pete can dominate him physically all day. When it comes down to it, honestly, the Green Goblin is a low tier Spider-Man villain.
Norman Osborn is Peter Parker's true arch enemy. Norman Osborn is more than capable of battling Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and more. Green Goblin can maybe tangle with Deadpool.
He's not a threat. At all.
PIS.
Norman isn't a threat. If Spidey wasn't given the idiot ball 95% of the time, he'd hand Norman his a** before Osborn even got on the Glider.
As for Norman Osborn being a danger to the MU because of his mind, don't make me laugh. Compared to Reed, Doom, Pym, Stark and the others, Norman is a 6 year old.
It's PIS, pure and simple.

Considering he has battled those guys, it is as a matter of fact correct.
Yeah, but Spider-Man beat up Firelord.@FadeToBlackBolt said:

Just because it happened, doesn't mean it wasn't completely idiotic.
There's a few ways you could look at it. 1. The lame side.(he barely has any powers and he is weapon based) or 2. The brighter side.(he is cunning and sadistic. He could whoop someone through plan.)
Have you ever seen Criminal Minds? The worst baddies on that show are not the physically threatening ones, they are the ones that are ruthless and unpredictable. Much like the Green Goblin.

Great post
the fact that he is mad is one of his weaknesses as well as one of his strenghs,he is not scared of the limits of his humanity, but like viper said: "the avengers don't beat osborn, spider-man does not beat osborn, it's osborn that beats osborn"
...
that pretty much tells everything
