Later she became more friendly with him and start having a relationship, something weird happened, people didnt liked her that much, they liked more a redhair girl with more attitude and less generic, less vanilla, she starts copying this redhair girl, to get more popular with readers.

They became a couple, then she became Betty Ross or any hero girlfriend, then she died.

Later we get a bunch of writer that did the next things, they pretty much retcon her as a pure character, as the perfect girl for Peter, they lie and lie.

The Disney Princess Gwen wasnt real, but she became real, but they made her real, more sacred and holy that Jesus, Moses and Siddhartha put together, more innocent that Bambi, she is now the only real, the only being some one could love, the perfect love its only for perfect beings and you can have perfect love with not perfect beings, this idealised vision being is whatever fanboys want and creatives need, she is whatever you want her to be.
