Before I get into this I just want to state for the record that I absolutely LOATH the new Ultimate Spider-man cartoon for several reasons, and that like most of you, I only watch it simply because its the only Spidey cartoon we have on air right now.

Ok, with that said, imagine my surprise when I found myself watching the latest episode "Freaky" and actually enjoyed it! The action was fantastic and almost (ALMOST) at the standards that Spectacular Spider-man set before it, and more importanty, the humor was actually funny. Seriously, this was the first time this show actually legitimately made me laugh.

Of course it comes to no surprise that one of my all time favorite writers Brian Micheal Bendis was the mastermind behind this episode, and it shows. The episode reads just like something straight out of the early years of "Ultimate Spider-man," which I guess makes sense given that it's based off of a 2 part stoy arc Bendis did in the first volume of the series. The writing was good, and the chemistry between Logan and Peter was hilarious, in fact the scenes where they're insulting each other are some of the best ones of the episode! The "Technical Difficulties" bit that would play whenever Peter or Logan where struggling with mastery over their "newfound" powers was also hilarious and well timed. Then there's the fight with Sabretooth, now THAT was intense. Seeing a Wolverine possessed Peter Parker hurl ol' Victor Creed into a bus that then skid for an extra 5 yards legitimately had me saying "daaaaaaaamn!" and made me remember what it was like to watch a decent Spider-man fight scene (ahhhh Spectacular Spidey, gone but not forgotten...). But perhaps the best quality of this episode was the fact that there really wasn't that many scenes where Peter broke the fourth wall, and even when he did, they actually weren't that bad.

All in all, I'm still in shock that I actually enjoyed this episode as much as I did! Am I officially a fan of this show now? No, definitely not, but I DID enjoy the ride Bendis took us on this week, and sincerely hope he comes back to write a few more for us in the future! What did you guys think? Did you see the episode?

@Replicant0658: They actually said in an interview a few weeks ago that Marvel knew it had screwed up Ultimate Spider-man and they were going to take it in a new direction or axe it and remake a new one if it still failed.

I don't think it's been too bad so far, it just needs to be a bit less slapstick and make Spidey less of a jerk towards some of the other characters.

and they need to keep him doing some hero stuff by himself like they did in this new episode. He does better without the team dragging him down, maybe if White Tiger and Nova were gone, and he teamed up with Danny and Luke on less occasion, it'd be better

@Strider92: I should hope so, guess we'll find out huh? At least they recognize their mistake =/

I agree with all of this, I feel like when they first came up with the show, they didn't realize that having Spidey be part of a team meant that his usual supporting characters (MJ, Harry, etc) would be over-shadowed by them. As it is, they kind of just linger in the background; they're just "there" you know, and really don't do much, making the episodes where they do actively participate feel really random and out of place, which is sad really given that they were there first in a way. If Marvel does intend to salvage this show (which they should because at its core, the show DOES have potential), I would give MJ and Harry more of a spotlight and develop their relationship with Peter a little bit more.

I quite liked the episode titled "Exclusive". NO fourth wall breaking, so much action, and Spider-Man being classic Spider-Man. There was also a real sense of danger. That show needs more episodes like that.

I know that it's the only Spider-man cartoon we have right now but that doesn't mean you should be watching it if it sucks...the only way that we're going to get rid of this show and get a show that is good is by not watching it and not supporting it

I don't want them to get rid of it. I want them to improve it. It's got a good idea, it just has too much of focusing on Spider-Man being a team player. I don't mind the team-ups, but they should reduce the importance of the team, and focus more of Spidey's solo career.@Replicant0658 said:

I totally I agree with you. They need to show more of them two, those are Peter's two closest friends, and they've been ignored a lot!
