Investigative Reporter, Eugenics and KKK
Being an old fan of the Spider-Man this arc story was a great chance to relive the nostalgic adventures that the web slinger used to provide me, with a plus: it's an ugly world, filled with terror and terrible people, so it demands a tougher, more cruel version of the not so friendly neighborhood - Hine and Sapolsky delivered a fantastic novel, bringing elements of History, mixing them with fiction and creating such an evil version of Otto Octavius, such a disturbed and perverted mind, it terrified me the most - the writers also aproached the racial theme in this volume, using Peter's friendship with Robbie Robertson as a balance to it - though there isn't much space for Peter's personal life in this narrative, the writers defiitely left enough room to bring in Mary Jane and Felicia Hardy, so yes, Peter is still the Don Juan - I kow this is a matter of personal taaste, but Giandomenico's art is so phenomenal, so rich in details, he created an incredible Manhattan in the early 30s of the 20th century, also gave great moves for Peter - I believe there're all the great stuff present in this story: good dialogues, a decent plot, amazing art and colors, characters development, providing to be an amusing read - the only downer, in my opinion, is the false moralism of saying that atrocities would never be allowed to happen in the USA, only in Germany (when the Nazi party ruled there), this was a little over the top, but nothing that condems or spoils the story - The Noir series were a very interesting publishing from Marvel and I would like to see more of it!
