Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. While most of the time we focus on action figures, we do sometimes look at some higher end items such as statues.
This week I decided to open up my 2013 Convention Exclusive Amazing Spider-Ham Limited Edition Mini Bust from SDCC.
This was an item I didn't plan on getting at San Diego this past summer. Doing a video booth tour at Gentle Giants, I just couldn't resist picking this up.
This is a limited item. It's limited to only 500 pieces.
This is #450 out of 500. Not great but I didn't buy it for it's collectibility, obviously (or I wouldn't have opened it). It may be a convention exclusive but of course you can find ones on eBay. I believe I paid $45 so you can expect the price to be a bit higher due to the limited nature.
But check out how cool it looks.
Surprisingly I have a few mini busts in my collection. Full figures are great but the benefit of the mini busts is the size. Unless you happen to have a large area you can devote to having them on display, the smaller size is, simple put, more convenient.
This statue may be small and there might not be a lot of room for detail, but take a look at his back.
This is another example of how great Spider-Man's costume is. The solid colors really give it a bold look.
Another great thing about this is because not everyone is familiar with Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham, you can imagine the questions and head scratching that will result when people get a look at this.
There's not much else to say. Collecting statues and mini busts can be more dangerous than action figures. There's always another cool one that comes out. You could run into issues of space for displaying them or just the fact that they can get a little pricey.
Let us know what you thought about this week's selection. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I think it's pretty dang cool.
