Mia Dearden is a great character. And I do enjoy her very much as Speedy; But one must question as to why DC would create an HIV positive Superhero. I could see if they were trying to reach those afflicted with HIV/AIDS but it's really not wise at all to put them in a situation in which they could infect others. This is in no way meant to offend anyone with HIV or AIDS I just can't help but think of this is all.

I love Speedy too!

But anyway, I think that's the point of it; putting her in a situation where she could possibly infect someone and actually putting her out there. Maybe it's a metaphorical message of some sort? That being HIV positive is not a disability?

If you have a look at heroes who don't have superpowers as well: People with the Green Lantern rings, Black Canary, they wear thin spandex as well.

Wonder Woman's weakness is piercing objects, yet she still wears spandex, and she's got her legs and shoulders exposed.

But AIDs and being HIV positive is a serious issue; perhaps it's time to send an email to DC and ask for a costume upgrade.

You're misunderstanding me a bit here. Open wounds come with the territory of being a superhero and there is a very high risk of transferring bodily fluids i.e. blood with your combatant or otherwise. Which brings me to my next point. She would not give them AIDS, she would give them HIV which eventually evolves into full blown AIDS. And finally I wasn't emplying that she needs to, "fight crime from the inside of tank because she is HIV positive." Not at all. I meant she should protect those around her from possible infection. I was thinking that they should at least give her something tearproof like nomex or kevlar. That's not so off the wall. Hell everyone in the Batman Family (Excluding Oracle) wears it. So I really don't think that would offend anybody.

The kind of amounts of blood that would have to be exchanged in the manner you're talking about would endanger the character in question because of blood-loss more than anything else.

Here's a handy tip, if your partner or enemy has a sucking chest wound... (and i can't stress this enough) do not try to ingest the blood.

lol, no I wouldn't suggest that you ingest your partner's blood neither. But the fact remains. If you have HIV or AIDS and you have an open wound and your combatant(or partner) has an open wound, it doesn't take much more then a small exchange of bodily fluid to infect them. And let's also keep in mind that this is a comic book environment. Blood loss can, and often times, does become little worry.

Once again though, I would like to stress the fact that I really do love Mia Dearden as Speedy, she plays the part well and it has nothing to with it being her.

I see what you did there, lol. And of course not but he would protect himself. Which is all I'm asking for DC to do with Speedy. Batman already wears nomex/kevlar and God knows what else. He even has gas vents on his cowl and and electric charge on his suit for matters of protection (See Hush).

I will concede that perhaps Mia is under-protected, but not anymoreso than Barbara Gordon (she had little formal combat training when she first donned the tights) or Dick Grayson or Jason Todd was when they were Robin (the lack of pants/leggings is really a red flag to me).
