Any thoughts on who this new guy could be? Rumors have named Nitro or Speedball as possibilities. Or maybe someone entirely new?

It's weird that they bring back the old Penance and create a new Penance almost at the same time.

I haven't heard what his powers are, if he has displayed any, but it could be Speedball. I highly doubt Nitro feels any form of "penance" for what happened.

Or, it could be a new character.

Marvel had an article posted about the new Penance, with the odds of who it could be. I'm sure it was mostly a smokescreen, but the number one choice was Nitro, after the Atlanteans had messed with him. The Speedball, then James Rhodes (I don't know why), and yes, even the original Penance.

They hinted pretty strongly that it wasn't a new character. But again, that could be Marvel bullshit to distract us.

Huh. Just finished reading Civil War: Frontline #9.

Yeah, I'm leading towards Speedball now.

I saw that same article. That's what inspired me to create a character page for him. Now I know I'm kinda breaking one of Captain Cascader's cardinal rules about having "character" II, but I know the other Penance is sorta still around. And I didn't think it'd make sense to start his right up under her page. If it is an established character, we could always merge the pages. Besides his point, I believe is more for like, Robin. We can mention the previous incarnations in the same page but this is a competley different character that Marvel was too lazy to give a new name.

I've heard people thinking it's gonna be Spider-Man. Doubt that's gonna happen. I don't think he could go with another costume change (as he's "Back in Black"). I think Wasp is the only one that changes her costume more.

Yeah, that's the page that changed my mind.

Which begs the question: Who's going to be in the new New Warriors? They've announced that one returning member will be there -- everyone assumed it was Speedball. Most of the others have been either killed or moved on, and I seriously doubt Nova will come back down to Warriors level...Maybe a return of Justice?

And um...when did Speedball become a masochist?

Well, it's official. As of Civil War Frontline #10, Speedball is now Penance. And the explanation over his armour is a bit involved, and a little creepy. A spike on the inside of his costume for every person killed in Stamford. Big spikes for the ambulance drivers he personally killed when he exploded in the ambulance after he was shot. A little creepy, but cool.

Anyone figure out what his power has morphed into yet? He explodes electricity when he hurts, or something?

Something like that.

He didn't really do anything other than that blast. Not saying that wasn't cool, but I thought he might do more.

It's almost like there's too many characters to get enough screen time. I guess they were only going after one person. People always ragged on Speedball but look at him now.

I think it's energys blasts as current power other then that don't know

as for him liking pain he told green goblin or someone else that he whould wear the spike suit all the time if he could
