Well, there's always God. But, otherwise, they've set him up, in his modern incarnation, to be all but invincible. It's always taken a team effort to do him in.

The Spectre is to the DCU as The Living Tribunal is to MU. He is only second to his master. DC keeps going back and forth about his role. Sometimes he is judge of the universe then he goes to just being a avenger of injustice.

And sometimes he's really weak and other times he has power beyond understanding. In the 80s the guy could hardly do anything, now he can turn people inside out.

However, The Spectre obviously has to be brought down a couple of pegs during a company-wide crisis, or else the event wouldn't be anymore than an issue long:

The Spectre isn't DC's Living tribunal. He was paired with the Living Tribunal because there was no equivalent to him in DC.

Spectre has rarely displayed power on level of Living Tribunal, and never anything that would equate their function. Even though the Spectre might be as powerful at times, Living Tribunal is higher in the celestial hierrachy.

If I were to compare spectre and LT, I would say that LT is a manipulator, he uses his awesome power to keep the multiverse in balance, he is a nigh omnipotent entity. The spectre, I wouldn't label him as omnipotent, rather, he's an unstoppable force. He has a job to do, and not a damn thing in this universe can stop him.

Now as for Anti-montior, he is the most powerful evil being in dc (Except maybe Lucifer, and I doubt how evil he is), So barely holding him of isn't exactly a show of weakness.

And another thing, people always complain about how Spectre's power is so inconsistent, but even at low power, he is still one of the most powerful beings in DC. Apart from the episode with Cain in final crisis, I can't remember him being beaten since 2000.

He is actually very powerful, the writers just want to make someone else seem more powerful by having them beat Spectre. They use him in different ways, as in either make someone else seem superbly powerful, or use him as a godly presence that puts an end to something.

Has Geoff Johns read a single Spectre comic in his entire life?
