Fans who were expecting every DC TV show to be on Cartoon Network or the CW were thinking a wee too limitedly. Deadline’s saying that Fox, of all networks, has just purchased based on the Spectre, of all superheroes from the DCU pantheon. Interestingly enough, it’s being written Brandon Camp, who co-created an earlier supernatural, afterlife-tinged thriller series for Fox in the 2000s - - JOHN DOE.
While the framework of Jim Corrigan being a cop who essentially continues his beat after the powers-that-be bring him back from the grave works great for TV, I feel like this is one of DC’s titles that would require the most significant re-tooling to work on the tube. Most obviously, I just can’t picture any prime time show with a chalk-white, mostly-naked man running around in little but a green speedo and cloak - - so the costume’s surely going to be redesigned. Secondly, I imagine they’re going to have to tone down the “personification of divine vengeance” angle and dial the Spectre’s power level back significantly, because it’ll be real hard to create tension on a weekly basis if the lead’s a godlike spirit.
== TEASER ==I could see this being closer to a police procedural with Corrigan looking like a regular cop most of the time or, conversely, it could be a TALES FROM THE CRYPT horror anthology where the Spectre serves as a narrator and occasional intervener. Obviously, there’s not a ton to go on at this point, except to ask you Comic Vine maniacs what YOU would do if you were asked to make this show. Go on and take a seat in the fantasy producer's chair.
