We had Sam and Twitch in the book, but because of some of the stuff I’m trying to sell in Hollywood, we might have to change the characters a bit,  But it would still be a police character who’s chasing down a case and in the middle of this ‘Godfather’-type movie, something weird is out there and no one knows about it except him and a few other people.

First question, would he WANT the role, I doubt it. Of course I don't know the dude personally but Spawn doesn't seem like something he'd be interested in. Second question, do I think a Spawn movie could work without him being the main character, yes. In fact I think it would be a nice change of pace. Something a lil different.

Dacaprio has definatly changed in his roles over the past decade. Coming from the pathetic lover in Titantic to kicking so much a$$ in the Departed an Body of Lies I REALLY wouldnt mind seeing him in a spawn movie. Just as long as he isnt spawn cause frankly...hes not badass enough yet.

Hm i read one of his recent interviews and he said that he wants this one to be more of a horror movie something for his teenage daughter, and then he mentioned he gets the rights back from HBO at the end of the year for the animated series and trying to do something with that again for his son...

He didnt seem to be caring much about the fans lol

I don't like Spawn very much, BUT the quick glimpse into this story sounds pretty awesome... I'm in.

The name of the movie is Spawn not random cop guy chasing Spawn

Todd McFarlane comes off as a bit of a d-bag from interviews + the letters column from Spawn.  I can understand that he wants to stuff differently with Spawn, but he shouldn't stray to far from makes it good.

Spawn is an awesome character! I loved the first thirty or so issues I read back in the day. Having said that, one of the reasons I stopped reading was the rants going on in the editorial/letters page. The "sound" of Todd McFarlane's voice made me sleepy - and what was worse - he pissed me off because a) he's probably ten times smarter on top of being better looking - and he's probably right. The Spawn animated series and the movie was just a bit dark and confusing. Yeah, I'd like to see a Spawn movie. But not with DiCaprio. Sam and Twitch are too much like Bullock and Gordon. I like the idea of Spawn being on the edge of the story, and maybe the story pulls him in enough to be the hero; But how about something like Die Hard? The cop that was on family matters? He was differetn from Bruce Willis - and not 'cuz he was black. How about somebody like Kevin James or somebody like that, working a case. Get over the Paul Blart stereotype already.

I think DiCaprio is beyond this role in his career.

idk i think this storyline could be really tight. i dont think guys such a bad choice either, it could be sweet.

Dicaprio would be by far enough to make me want to go watch the movie, doubt he would sign in though. Then again more and more A-list actors are jumping into the comic genre so who knows

Hey i remember Di caprio from a quite similiar role where he had to get money by... giving other guys special "duties" in the subway toilet and taking drugs...

Could potentially work but the script definitely has to be there if the movie has another main character instead of Spawn being the main  character.

i don't know... at best it could be like that comic brian azzarello wrote about the joker that was told through his henchman johnny frost's point of view... actually that might turn out pretty damn well.

I think that sounds great-not having Spawn as the main character could make it a neat change of pace and have it be like the Cloverfield of comic-book movies.

The story would need to be focused around Spawn's anger towards losing his wife and not being able to end his life/misery. Otherwise, why would you even call the movie spawn, you can just give it another random name and nobody would know the difference.

doubt this will happen. Dicaprio is a great actor who has had so much success he has total control over all the roles he has done, and he has an eye for movies so he will only attach himself to movies he feels will do well and that he wants to do. So good luck convincing him McFarlane. 

I havent even read Spawn, and I think that this is a bad idea. Everyone knows that when you mess with the source material the end result is a big mess!

I can picture Leo as maybe billy Kincad or even Mammon.

I think taking this story in the direction from another person's perspective could be good so long as said lead is a strong enough actor and his character/storyline is engaging enough. That can be big britches to fill, but if filled then it can work, sorta like Metal Gear Solid 2 and seeing Snake through Raiden's eyes...but I suppose that reference might not hold up as much weight for everyone else as it did for me :P.

Love to see another Spawn flick. Love to see DiCap.

NO, Leonardo needs to in a role where he is the main character,not a second character brought to the forefront !!! I think Marvel needs Leonardo DiCaprio more to portray Hank Pym a.k.a "Ant-Man"/"Giant-Man". Ant-Man is such an unknown,under-rated and disliked character that only Leonardo DiCaprio could make popular and become a household name like how Robert Downey Jr. did with Iron Man. Frankly ,DiCaprio doing the role similar to what he did in "The Aviator" would be freakin BADDASS!!! Hank Pym and T'Challa are the only ones in The Avengers that are on par with Tony Stark and I would have a nerdgasm if I saw DiCaprio and Downey going back and forth and scientific debates and theories and working together that would be incredible!!! Looks like Edgar Wright is backing out of Ant-Man so Marvel needs to hurry up and fix the situation or possibly find another Jon Favereau type director for "Ant-Man" So I say Leonardo DiCaprio as "Hank Pym" and Simon Pegg as" Scott Lang". I want to see Hank Pym make his first cameo in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor", explaining the possibilities of interdimentional travel through sub-atomic patickles and etc., helping to also ground Thor into reality with Jane Foster's help.

It would really depend on the writing. If the script is there and they can somehow make a movie where this detective is looking for Spawn most of the film AND have enough Spawn in it to be relevant, it could work. 
 
I don't know why Leo would want to play a comic book role where he isn't playing an established character. Most of the characters in comic book movies are supporting characters from the existing franchise. There wouldn't be any instant recognition and familiarity like there is when, say Gwen Stacy shows up in Spider-man 3. I suppose they could develop the character enough for him to be memorable, but the writing would have to be phenomenal to pull DiCaprio in. I used to make fun of him and call him DiCraprio, but in recent years he's really come into his own and shed that Tiger-Beat magazine aura he had.
