I'm looking to get into the Spawn universe of comics and don't know a good place to start. I wanna get the Spawn Compendium which came out last night and has the first 50 issues. Should I just buy that? Thanks guys.

I bought it off amazon 2 weeks ago, really good place to start having the first 50 all in a row, i actually prefer the black and white rather than the colour version, at least for these first 50 issues, i looked at some of the other trades and the colours really throw me off up until the 50 range when the creators hit their stride. There are a few mini-series that are in continuity but are not included in the compendium but the issues do a good job filling you in. I would start watching the animated series, at least the first season, to get into the characters and learn his motivations without McFarlene's inexperienced writing. Its a good change of pace from the current stuff. I'm 20 so i missed the whole 90's craze but i like the story, the art and its brings you back to a different time in comics. I bought the next 25 issues in one of those big hardcovers too so you know that i liked it enough to continue

Oh ok. Thank you. I'm 19, so I missed the whole 90's thing too too. I just recently started getting into the whole comic book world a couple years ago. I have The Walking Dead compendiums, Invincible compendiums, The Witchblade compendiums, and The Darkness compendiums. I've heard so much about Spawn though so I thought I'd give him a try.
