A highly trained assassin, murdered by his employer and former friend Chapel. Albert ''Al'' Francis Simmons sold his soul to Malebolgia, one of the many rulers of the Hell, in order to see his wife Wanda Blake again. Malebolgia had other things in mind for Al and sent him back to earth with no memory as a Hellspawn, one of his soldiers, to do his bidding. After realizing what he had lost, Al swore revenge, and became the vigilante known as Spawn.

OK, let me clarify this for you. That picture you have there is an old picture from when he entered heaven. When Armageddon came he was blessed with powers from a god named mother. She created God and Satan, she also made everything else. After being in a place called the green world spawn gained all his memories including his experience of how to control his suit. Spawns suit is a symbiotic demon and the most powerful of its species called a leetha of the 7th house (k-7 leetha). Spawns body is also made up of necroplasm which also makes him dead not a demon. However after getting his memories back his suit evolved and fused with his necroplasm body making them one. Spawn is later killed by Judas but later resurrected by mother, into his angelic form and with e powers of a god.
After he recreates the world spawn becomes al Simons again thanks to mother, he soon realizes that he was the one who chose to be spawn. He decides to reject his human self and he takes on a more demonic form, true to what he really is. No longer hanging on to his humanity he accepts that he is a demon, he then hides away waiting in the shadows.
