Yo Azzarello, Whut Da Hellz Tiz Goin Down In Dis Ear Comic Book

One pet peeve of mine while reading Azzarello’s 100 Bullets was his constant use of slang and purposely spelling words wrong to make his characters seem “street”. Something he does frequently in Spaceman #1, and it annoys the hell out of me.

Example of Azzarello “street english” from issue #1:

    • Okee = Okay
    • Hittin = Hitting
    • Tonite = tonight
    • Kno = Know
    • Cut=quit
    • A’ight = alright
    • Lyin=lying
    • Brainin little= not smart
    • Yer = your
    • Killin = killing
    • Realtee = really
    • Bein = being
    • Yip = yup
    • Yer = your
    • Ear = hear
    • Lil = little
    • Funs = funds
    • Bringin = bringing
    • scut = cut
    • fer = for
    • bizz = business
    • dollah = dollar
    • bee = be

As far as story goes, I was not impressed. I was bored and spent most of my time deciphering Azzarello’s bullshit English as I went along. I don’t really know what was going on in this book, and if it wasn’t for the interviews explaining what the comic was about before reading this issue, I would be completely lost.

The positives of this book come from Eduadaro Risso’s art. I always thought it was strong in 100 Bullets and being that Spaceman looks exactly like 100 Bullets, it looks good here too.

But at the end of the day I didn’t enjoy this issue and would not recommend getting into this series.

      This Can't Be Azzarello 0

The Story: I have absolutely no idea. My Thoughts: Brian Azzarello's name is what attracted me to this series. That and the fact that this first issue was only $1.00 were my two deciding factors in picking this up. Nothing about this story drew me in. In fact I was annoyed almost throughout the issues entirety at the excessive amount of "slang" used by the characters. It was to the point that I wanted to simply stop reading the issue. I did finish it though and upon finishing it was extremely di...

      Hesitation In Space 0

Hmmm.... This was definitely worth $1. I'm only a recent fan of Azzarello, my first exposure was his Flashpoint: Batman miniseries which I LOVED, and I'm loving his run on Wonder Woman, but that's it. The covers for this series are AWESOME, and Eduardo Risso's artwork was excellent on Flashpoint: Batman, and for some reason none of my LCS's received the new American Vampire this week, so I had some extra cash. I'd been meaning to look into this, and now I had the moment when one of the slightly ...
